COS Systems, a provider of cloud-based BSS/OSS platforms for broadband operators, hosted a regional Open Access Day event in Spokane Valley, Washington. The event aimed to bring together operators, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and vendors to discuss the success factors of open access networks and foster collaboration.
Ariane Schmidt, Executive Director of Broadlinc, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of open access beyond major urban centers. This panel delved into the challenges and benefits of operating on community networks, covering topics such as IP management, billing integration, and the differences between greenfield and brownfield builds.
Speed dating sessions were a highlight of the event, with participants carefully selecting whom to meet in advance. Each participant chose their preferred partners through a preference form, ensuring that operators, ISPs, and vendors could connect and discuss potential collaborations. Isak Finér, Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) at COS Systems, highlighted the success of speed dating, noting that it facilitated introductions that could lead to future business relationships.
The event included a range of sponsors, with Arcadis and Broadlinc providing elite-level support. Calix and Nokia contributed at the day level, while ReadiTech Engineering sponsored lunch and Bonfire Infrastructure Group hosted the cornhole championship. The day concluded with the Open Access Bar at The Scale House Market, located next to the venue.
Participants included operators such as Kitsap PUD, NoaNet, GigSpeed, KnightCom, SumoFiber, and Intellipop, alongside ISPs and vendors. The event underscored the growing importance of open access networks in regional communities, providing a platform for stakeholders to share knowledge and forge partnerships.
