CHICAGO, Oct. 7, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Aasi Siddique, a candidate for Cook County District 13 Commissioner, has unveiled a comprehensive plan to overhaul the county's fragmented property tax system. Siddique’s initiative aims to address a decade of software fragmentation between the offices of the Assessor, Clerk, and Treasurer, which has frozen $216 million in property tax distributions to local school districts.
According to Siddique, the Integrated Property Tax System (IPTS) has also stalled $56 million in refund checks owed to 25,000 area property owners. Siddique, who brings extensive experience in finance, risk management, and military service, proposes an enterprise-grade cloud data standard to bind these independent offices together and eliminate the multi-agency processing bottlenecks that force school districts to take out high-interest short-term loans to pay teachers.
The initiative includes several core campaign priorities. Siddique proposes full property tax exemptions for seniors living in their single-family homes for 35 years or more, ensuring housing stability for long-term residents facing rising costs. The campaign also advocates for the implementation of resilient engineering solutions to combat recurring flooding that disrupts local communities and regional economies. Additionally, Siddique is pushing for the inclusion of financial literacy and mental health education within school curricula, providing essential life skills for students from the eighth grade through graduation.
Siddique frames the county's current institutional challenges as "wicked problems" that require modern, resilient solutions rather than aging infrastructure. By streamlining the IPTS, the campaign aims to restore transparency to fiscal management and ensure taxpayer funds reach their intended destinations without bureaucratic delay.
