BURLINGTON, Mass., Oct. 5, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Consano Bio, Inc., a clinical-stage biotechnology company based in the Greater Boston area, has announced the completion of an oversubscribed financing round, raising more than $15 million, exceeding its initial target. This funding brings the company’s total capital raised in the past three years to over $45 million. The funds will be used to complete the ongoing randomized, double-blind Phase 1 clinical trial of C-1101, a novel, platelet-derived multi-protein biologic therapeutic, and to continue the development and strengthening of the scientific foundation and intellectual property portfolio for C-1101 and additional assets.
C-1101 is designed to treat chronic painful lumbosacral radiculopathy, or chronic sciatica, by modulating inflammation and stimulating cellular repair at the site of injury. The Phase 1 trial, C-1101-101 (NCT07264270), is enrolling patients with chronic painful lumbosacral radiculopathy in Australia and the United States. The study is expected to complete enrollment in early 2027, with clinical data anticipated in the first half of 2027. This data will inform further clinical development of the therapy.
Chronic lumbosacral radiculopathy, or chronic sciatica, is a significant subset of low back pain, accounting for a substantial portion of the U.S. health care spending. According to JAMA, chronic, painful lumbosacral radiculopathy is the leading cause of years lived with disability in the U.S., with an estimated annual cost of $135 billion. Today, there are no FDA-approved pharmaceutical treatments for chronic sciatica, leaving patients with unsatisfactory standard of care options that provide only temporary or incomplete relief and do not address the underlying pathology.
In August 2026, the FDA granted C-1101 Fast Track designation for the treatment of chronic lumbosacral radiculopathy.
The company's lead investigational clinical candidate, C-1101, is a first-in-class disease-modifying therapeutic. It contains consistent concentrations of cytokines, growth factors, and matrix proteins, designed to help trigger the body's natural healing response. Delivered via an epidural injection, C-1101 is intended to provide supraphysiologic concentrations of these proteins directly to the site of nerve injury.
