BURNABY, British Columbia, Oct. 20, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Connective, a non-profit organization with a long-standing commitment to creating safe, healthy, and inclusive communities, has partnered with Anthem Properties to preserve 178 affordable rental homes in Burnaby. The acquisition includes The Standard, a 92-unit rental building, and Nuvo, an 86-unit rental building, both of which are fully occupied and offer rents 20 per cent below the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) median market rent.

This transaction, which secures the homes under long-term non-profit ownership, is a significant step in addressing the housing crisis. Lindsay Lord, Chief Real Estate Development Officer at Connective, emphasized the importance of preserving existing affordable homes.

Gage Marchand, Vice President, Multi-family at Anthem Properties, highlighted the strengths of both organizations in this partnership.

The acquisition expands Connective’s affordable housing portfolio to more than 725 homes, marking an important step in the organization’s growth in Burnaby. Connective, which employs over 1,400 people and manages more than 1,800 housing units, serves over 7,600 people across 28 communities. This partnership underscores Connective’s commitment to providing stable, affordable housing for current and future residents.

Anthem Properties, founded in 1991, is a real estate development, investment, and management company of 850+ people driven by creativity, passion, and direct communication. Anthem has invested in, developed, or managed more than 400 residential and commercial projects across North America. Its growing residential portfolio includes 44,000 homes that are complete, in design, or under construction, from mixed-use residential to townhomes, rental, and single-family homes. The company also owns, co-owns, manages, or has previously owned 12 million square feet of retail, industrial, and office space, and its land portfolio includes more than 60 communities, spanning 9,100 acres across Canada and the United States.

The transaction also reflects a broader model for preserving existing affordable housing by transferring completed housing assets into long-term non-profit ownership. These acquisitions can strengthen the asset base and long-term capacity of non-profit housing providers, ensuring that these homes remain affordable and well-managed for the communities they serve.

Demand for the homes was strong from the outset. Anthem’s property management team fully leased The Standard within one month and Nuvo within three weeks of becoming available. The acquisition expands Connective’s affordable housing portfolio to more than 725 homes and marks an important step in the organization’s growth in Burnaby.

The transaction also underscores the importance of collaboration between for-profit and non-profit organizations in addressing the housing crisis. By working together, these entities can ensure that affordable housing remains a priority and that communities have the resources they need to thrive.
