Columbia Grain International, a leader in the origination, processing, logistics, and distribution of high-quality bulk grains, pulses, edible beans, oilseeds, and organics, has once again demonstrated its commitment to community support during Hunger Action Month. This September, the company's Portland, Oregon, branch organized two volunteer events to pack and distribute food to those in need in the Pacific Northwest.
On September 3, CGI employees donated 2,200 pounds of green lentils from the Plentywood, Montana, processing plant to the Oregon Food Bank. These lentils were then packaged by CGI volunteers alongside 7,074 pounds of apples. The effort was part of a larger initiative by the company to support local food security and strengthen the communities where they operate.
Kurt Haarmann, President and CEO of Columbia Grain International, expressed the company's dedication to community involvement.
The 2026 Hunger Action Month, launched in 2007 by the Feeding America network of food banks, aims to inspire action to end hunger in America. Morgan Dewey, the Media and Engagement Manager of the Oregon Food Bank, highlighted the importance of such community-driven efforts.
On September 11, CGI employees also participated in the 9/11 Day meal pack event, which aimed to pack 20 million meals for those relying on food assistance. Haarmann noted, "The 9/11 Day meal pack event was a particularly special time to do something good on a day marked with such great loss. It was an honor to pack approximately 7,000 meals to help support families in need throughout Oregon."
Company-donated food and employee participation in these two volunteer events support CGI's ongoing dedication to giving back by supporting food security efforts across the U.S. and beyond. Tracie Hall, the HR Director at Columbia Grain International, emphasized the importance of such initiatives.
Columbia Grain International's commitment to community support through food security efforts is a testament to its mission to "Feed the World." Through these volunteer events, the company continues to fulfill its commitment to improving the quality of life for those in need in the Pacific Northwest.
