Cognition Therapeutics is developing zervimesine for Alzheimer's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). The company's lead candidate, zervimesine (CT1812), has shown promise in Phase 2 clinical trials, particularly in the treatment of DLB and mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease. The drug is currently under evaluation in the Phase 2 START Study (NCT05531656) for patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and early Alzheimer’s disease.
According to the company, initial clinical results with zervimesine have been encouraging, with strong efficacy signals observed in the Phase 2 SHIMMER study in DLB (NCT05225415). Based on these findings, Cognition Therapeutics plans to advance zervimesine into a late-stage clinical trial for people with DLB psychosis.
Zervimesine has been well-tolerated in clinical studies to date. The company’s scientific approach focuses on addressing the underlying mechanisms of degenerative nerve disorders, including the reduction of toxic oligomers that drive disease progression. This approach is being explored across multiple conditions, including DLB, Alzheimer’s disease, geographic atrophy, and Parkinson’s disease.
Cognition Therapeutics has received nearly $200 million in National Institutes of Health and related foundation grants to support its clinical research. The company continues to advance its development plans, aiming to bring forth solutions that meet the needs of patients and caregivers.
