CleanCounts Launches Hourly Tracking and Enhanced Certificates for Renewable Energy Projects

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 17, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- CleanCounts, the nonprofit energy attribute tracking system, has announced the addition of new features to its registry platform, including hourly tracking and enhanced Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs). These capabilities are designed to provide more granular tracking and transparency for renewable energy projects, particularly for corporate buyers seeking to match their electricity use to renewable generation hour by hour.
Since rebuilding its software from scratch in 2017, CleanCounts has demonstrated its commitment to innovation and transparency in the renewable energy sector. The organization has spearheaded several industry-firsts, including the first hourly Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) in 2021, the first green hydrogen certificate in 2022, and the first pollinator-friendly solar REC in 2023. These achievements underscore CleanCounts' role as a trusted pioneer in driving advancements in clean and renewable energy use.
As the largest clean energy registry in North America, CleanCounts provides the registry infrastructure used by utilities, renewable energy generators, and corporate buyers for RECs, along with their generation and retirement. More than 40% of the RECs on the continent are issued by CleanCounts registry software, and the platform has issued more than 2 billion energy attribute certificates. The platform helps ensure that renewable energy generation and attribute ownership are tracked transparently and credibly, contributing to the broader goals of environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
The forthcoming capabilities include hourly-matched granular certificates, which will enable project developers to provide more detailed tracking and for corporate buyers to match their electricity use to renewable generation hour by hour. CleanCounts is inviting clean energy developers and corporations to be part of the first wave of onboarding and testing these features. Since then, CleanCounts has spearheaded 24/7 tracking innovation to bring hourly matching to the broader renewable energy industry.
CleanCounts is also working with Seneca Environmental, a tribally owned business of the Seneca Nation, to include data directly on RECs indicating whether projects are located on the lands of Federally recognized tribal entities. Additionally, the organization is focusing on low-impact certified hydropower, with renewable energy certificates that include the LIHI Certified® attributes, confirming that hydropower facilities operate in a manner that reduces harm to fish migration, provides benefits to river ecosystems and local communities, and meets all the certification requirements of the Low-Impact Hydropower Institute (LIHI).
CleanCounts has also demonstrated market interest in RECs that include data indicating that a project meets Minnesota’s Board of Water and Soil Resources Habitat Friendly Solar standard. In recognition of its efforts, CleanCounts was recently awarded a 2026 Green Power Leadership Award for its pollinator-friendly RECs.
The event food and beverage menus are being prepared by James Beard nominated rural chefs Mateo Mackbee and Erin Lucas to use and highlight ingredients sourced from solar farms throughout the country.
