Clarivate Announces 2026 Citation Laureates Recognizing Transformative Research

Clarivate has announced the Citation Laureates 2026, recognizing 22 researchers for their groundbreaking work that has the potential to shape science and society. The awardees, selected by experts at the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) at Clarivate, include pioneers in fields such as GLP-1 medicines, precision gene editing, and optical medical imaging.

Among the honorees are Daniel J. Drucker, Jens Juul Holst, and Svetlana Mojsov, who were recognized for their foundational research in GLP-1 biology and obesity treatment. Their work has led to the development of GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines, which have transformed the treatment of diabetes and obesity for millions of people worldwide.

Bar Veinstein, President of Academia & Government at Clarivate, emphasized the importance of the Citation Laureates program. "For more than two decades, the Citation Laureates has been a key indicator of exceptional research influence. The program recognizes researchers whose discoveries demonstrate the extraordinary value of fundamental research. Many of the advances we honor this year began as scientific questions explored decades ago, and today they are improving lives, informing policy, and shaping the future."

The 2026 Citation Laureates come from leading academic institutions in seven countries, including the United States, Canada, Denmark, Israel, Japan, Mainland China, and Switzerland. Their research spans a wide range of fields, including physiology or medicine, physics, chemistry, and economics. Notable areas of research include advanced OLED displays, energy-efficient computing materials, self-assembled nanomaterials, and precision gene editing.

The program uses publication and citation data from the Web of Science Core Collection to identify researchers whose work is of Nobel class. Out of more than 67 million articles and proceedings indexed since 1970, less than 0.02% have been cited more than 2,000 times. The Citation Laureates are selected from this elite group through rigorous citation analysis and expert insight.

Daniel J. Drucker, a Senior Investigator at Sinai Health's Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute and University Professor at the University of Toronto, expressed his gratitude for the recognition. The Citation Laureates 2026 program aims to highlight researchers whose work is of Nobel class and merits global recognition. The 2026 Nobel Prize announcements will take place from October 5 to 12 and will be streamed live at www.nobelprize.org.
