TORONTO, Sept. 14, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Cineplex, Canada’s leading entertainment and media company, reported record-breaking box office revenues for August 2026, marking the highest monthly performance in the company’s history. The month saw box office revenues of $98 million, doubling the previous year’s figures and outperforming the domestic box office market.
This exceptional performance was driven by the blockbuster releases of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and "The Odyssey," which collectively contributed significantly to the success of the summer box office season. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has become the second-highest-grossing release in Cineplex’s history, continuing to attract large audiences. "The Odyssey" also performed exceptionally, particularly in premium formats such as IMAX 70MM, where Cineplex operates eight of the 41 theatres globally, one of the largest footprints among exhibitors.
The strong consumer demand for premium experiences was evident in the high percentage of box office revenue from premium formats. Approximately 54% of August’s box office revenue came from premium experiences, and Cineplex achieved a Box Office Per Patron metric of more than $15.00, the first time the company has reached this milestone. This underscores the growing popularity of premium experiences among moviegoers.
The success extended beyond the screen, with Cineplex generating the highest monthly Theatre Food Service revenue in its history. Additionally, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day retail merchandise program became the largest film merchandise program in Cineplex’s history, further boosting the company’s overall performance.
