China Southern Power Grid Highlights Greater Bay Area Achievements

SHENZHEN, China, Sept. 7, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. showcased its achievements in the Greater Bay Area at the Asia-Pacific Media Forum in Shenzhen on September 5, highlighting the company's contributions to regional energy cooperation and shared prosperity.

The event, themed "Building a Path to Shared Prosperity for the Asia-Pacific Community: Media Consensus and Action," brought together more than 400 representatives from over 40 countries and regions, as well as United Nations agencies and international organizations. Qian Chaoyang, Chairman and Party Secretary of China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd., attended the forum and delivered remarks, underscoring the company's role in advancing energy connectivity across the Asia-Pacific region.

China Southern Power Grid's progress in the Greater Bay Area is significant. The region's total electricity consumption exceeds 700 TWh, surpassing other major bay areas globally. A robust power grid ensures average annual outage times of less than 30 minutes, maintaining world-class power supply reliability. Cleaner energy sources are also a key focus, with the West-to-East Electricity Transmission project transmitting approximately 180 billion kWh of clean electricity annually. The company has installed renewable energy capacity exceeding 93 GW, with clean energy accounting for more than half of total installed capacity.

Innovation and technology play a pivotal role in the company's initiatives. China Southern Power Grid's proprietary power-sector foundation model, "Big Watt • Yudian," won the top award at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference. The company is also at the forefront of regional cooperation, having built 17 high-voltage power transmission links with Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar. Additionally, it is exploring the development of a regional electricity market in the Lancang-Mekong region, facilitating cross-border energy trade.

China Southern Power Grid's commitment to shared prosperity is evident in its collaborations and initiatives. The company's subsidiary, Pluz Energía Perú, ranks first in local power supply reliability. In partnership with Laos, power outages in three demonstration zones have been reduced by 70%. The company has also hosted the Global South Power Partnership Development Forum and signed more than 50 partnership agreements. Through these efforts, China Southern Power Grid has trained nearly 2,000 energy professionals from partner countries and implemented community projects, such as the Vinh Tan Light initiative in Vietnam and the Dok Champa project in Laos.

Looking ahead, the company plans to capitalize on complementary energy resources and expand cross-border energy cooperation across the Asia-Pacific region.
