BOSTON, Oct. 15, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Chiesi Global Rare Diseases, a business unit of the Chiesi Group, has announced the presentation of new scientific data and real-world experience relating to FILSUVEZ® (birch triterpenes) topical gel at the 14th Annual Conference of the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA), to be held October 15-17, 2026, in Alexandria, Virginia. This conference will bring together insights from two presentations that build on real-world experience and scientific evidence previously shared, as well as a third presentation that will share new real-world observations for the first time at PeDRA.

FILSUVEZ® was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in December 2023 for the treatment of wounds associated with dystrophic and junctional epidermolysis bullosa (EB) in adult and pediatric patients 6 months of age and older. It was previously approved for the same indication by the European Commission in June 2022 and by the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in September 2022. The topical gel is now also registered on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) on May 5, 2026, and is currently under review by Health Canada in Canada.

The PeDRA presentations will include an expanded analysis of the mechanism-of-action data introduced at the 55th Annual European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR) Meeting in September, and additional real-world experience with birch triterpenes as part of combination treatment approaches first shared at the 51st Annual Society for Pediatric Dermatology (SPD) Meeting in July. A third presentation will share new real-world observations on the use of birch triterpenes in adolescents with chronic, life-long wounds.

For a condition such as epidermolysis bullosa, where long-term clinical experience is essential, real-world evidence can provide important insights into how wound management approaches are being used across different care settings. Sharing these observations alongside mechanistic research helps expand the evidence base and identify questions that warrant further investigation, ultimately contributing to continued learning across the EB community.

Dr. Lara Wine Lee, a pediatric dermatologist at the Medical University of South Carolina, emphasized the importance of real-world evidence.

Chiesi Global Rare Diseases is also supporting initiatives that amplify the voices and everyday experiences of people living with EB. As the global EB community comes together for EB Awareness Week (October 25-31), Chiesi continues to support initiatives that amplify the voices and everyday experiences of people living with EB. These include the LivingWithEB platform, a digital space where people with EB can connect through personal stories and disease information, and the amplification of DEBRA International's Inside Out campaign, which brings greater visibility to the often-unseen impact of EB in daily life.
