WUHU, China, Sept. 22, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Chery Group, a Chinese automaker, has achieved a historic milestone by topping the UK new car market in August 2026. The brand, which has been cultivating the mature European market for years, has recorded 8,618 deliveries in the UK, marking the first time a Chinese auto brand has claimed monthly leadership in the UK new car market.
According to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Chery Group’s monthly sales of 6,238 units captured a 6.62% share of the UK new car market. This performance propelled the brand to second place in the overall rankings, up from third place in July. OMODA and JAECOO, two of the core brands in Chery Group’s European market strategy, played a crucial role in this achievement, with their combined monthly sales of 6,238 units.
Among the UK's top 10 bestselling models in August, Chinese models took four spots, with Chery Group securing three: JAECOO 7 ranked second with 2,022 units sold, JAECOO 5 in fourth with 1,670 units, and OMODA 5 in sixth with 1,465 units. JAECOO 7 has consistently held a steady place in the UK's top 10 best-sellers since September 2025, even topping the monthly sales chart for a single model in March 2026, setting a new benchmark for Chinese car brands in the UK.
Chery Group’s journey in the UK has been marked by steady growth. From January to August 2026, the company delivered 91,542 vehicles in the UK, a 323.92% increase year on year, and ranked second across the entire market. Since March, Chery Group has held the UK monthly sales runner-up spot for five consecutive months, and took the top in August. Today, one in every ten new cars sold in the UK is a Chery Group vehicle.
The success of OMODA and JAECOO in the UK is part of a broader strategy to establish a presence in the European market. Since OMODA and JAECOO entered the market, cumulative sales have surpassed 100,000 units in less than two years. In the first eight months of 2026, Chery Group sold 233,764 vehicles across 24 European countries, a 193% increase year on year. New energy vehicles (NEVs) accounted for 114,306 units, more than tripling the prior year figure.
Chery Group has also expanded its global footprint, establishing a presence in 22 European markets with cumulative sales surpassing 440,000 units as of July 2026. The company’s global cumulative sales have surpassed 20,440,000 units, with international deliveries exceeding 7,180,000, making it the first Chinese automaker to surpass 7,000,000 global deliveries. Chery Group has ranked No. 1 in global deliveries among Chinese passenger car brands for 23 consecutive years.
Looking ahead, Chery Group plans to host an International User Summit in October to coordinate its global technology roadmap and industrial ecosystem development. The conference will feature an immersive, real-world interactive experience zone, showcasing cutting-edge human-robot collaboration applications, AI intelligent cockpits, and future mobility scenarios. OMODA and JAECOO will also launch their annual flagship grand event, unveiling cutting-edge technology updates including the Super Hybrid System, Intelligent Valet Parking, and the AI Intelligent Cockpit, opening up greater possibilities for the global mobility market.
