PARIS, Oct. 1, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Château Margaux, a renowned French wine estate with a rich history dating back to the 18th century, has announced the appointment of Aurélien Valance as its new Managing Director, effective December 1, 2026. This transition marks a significant milestone as the estate prepares for the next chapter in its legacy.
Philippe Bascaules, who has dedicated 30 years to Château Margaux, will step down as Managing Director at the end of 2026. His tenure has been marked by a commitment to the estate's long-term continuity and the transfer of knowledge to the next generation. Bascaules joined Château Margaux in 1990 as Director of Operations and held this position until 2011. He then spent five years in the United States, managing a prestigious vineyard in Napa Valley. In March 2017, Bascaules returned to Château Margaux as Managing Director, where he has continued to guide the estate with his extensive experience and deep knowledge of the property.
Aurélien Valance, currently Deputy Managing Director, Sales and Operations, will take over the role. Valance's journey with Château Margaux began in 2001 when he first joined the estate as an intern. He later served as Commercial Director from 2006 to 2016, before being appointed Deputy Managing Director, Sales and Operations in 2017. Valance's appointment reflects the estate's commitment to continuity and the transmission of knowledge. He has an intimate understanding of the estate's history, wines, teams, and markets, having been with Château Margaux since 2001.
Alexis Leven-Mentzelopoulos, Co-owner and CEO of Château Margaux, expressed gratitude to Bascaules for his dedication and availability.
Valance's appointment is also supported by an experienced technical team. Benjamin Vimal, who joined the estate on May 6, 2026, serves as Technical and Operations Director, overseeing all technical operations from the vineyard to bottling. Blandine de Rouffignac, who has been with Château Margaux since 2018, leads the estate's research and development programs, enabling it to anticipate future challenges and support the evolution of its practices.
Château Margaux's decision to appoint Valance as Managing Director is a testament to the estate's commitment to maintaining its legacy while preparing for the future. The transition will ensure the continuity of knowledge and expertise, allowing the estate to continue producing world-class wines and maintaining its position as a leader in the global wine industry.
