TORONTO, Sept. 17, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- In September, the Canadian Franchise Association (CFA) is celebrating Franchisee Appreciation Month (FAM) to recognize the hard work and dedication of local entrepreneurs who own and operate franchised businesses across the country. These franchisees are the face of some of the best-known brands in Canada, but their impact extends far beyond the products and services they provide.

Behind every location is a franchisee who has taken the leap to build a business, create jobs, and contribute to the community they call home. The CFA is highlighting the stories of these local entrepreneurs through the "Join the FAM" campaign, sharing their contributions to their communities.

The CFA notes that 93% of franchises in Canada are locally owned, with independent small business owners investing in their businesses, hiring local people, and contributing to their communities. These franchisees are not just employees; they are employers, mentors, neighbors, volunteers, and community supporters. They know their customers, hire people from their communities, and give back to causes and community groups near to their hearts.

McNeil emphasizes, "Franchisees are the local face of some of the brands Canadians know and love, but their impact goes far beyond the products and services they provide. They are making a difference in their communities every day." The CFA is encouraging Canadians to recognize the franchisees in their own communities, whether it's the local restaurant owner who knows their regular customers by name, the fitness studio owner creating jobs and building a community, or the retailer sponsoring a local team.

According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), 97% of small retailers contribute to their communities or provinces, while 74% donate to local charities and causes. More than half sponsor local events or sports teams, and 55% provide employment opportunities for youth. These figures underscore the significant local impact of franchisees.

The CFA, which represents approximately 650 members and over 40,000 franchisees from many of Canada’s best-known and emerging franchise brands, is advocating on issues that impact this dream. Beyond its role as the voice of the franchise industry, the CFA strengthens and develops franchising by delivering best-practice education and creating rewarding connections between Canadians and the opportunities in franchising.

Franchising is the 12th largest industry in Canada, with franchised businesses contributing almost $150 billion per year to the Canadian economy and creating jobs for almost two million Canadians. This contribution is a testament to the success and importance of franchisees in the Canadian economy.

Throughout September, the CFA is inviting Canadians to celebrate the people behind the brands and recognize the local entrepreneurs who help make their communities stronger. The "Join the FAM" campaign encourages people to take a moment to appreciate the franchisees they encounter every day and the positive impact they have on their communities.
