VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept. 14, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Cespira, the joint venture between Westport Fuel Systems and Volvo Group, has unveiled HPDI 3.0, the latest iteration of its High Pressure Direct Injection fuel system. This new technology aims to enhance fuel economy and expand options for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

HPDI 3.0 builds upon the proven principles of its predecessor while introducing several advancements. The new system features improved fuel rail-pressure control, enhanced hardware durability, and better system integration. It supports both liquefied natural gas (LNG) and renewable bio-based liquefied natural gas (bioLNG), while maintaining adaptability for future low- and zero-carbon fuels.

According to Dan Sceli, CEO of Westport, the new system offers significant performance enhancements.

Scott Baker, CTO of Cespira, highlighted the system's durability and integration flexibility.

The new system is designed to support larger engines, including V12 and other multi-bank configurations, by allowing fuel pressure control across separate cylinder banks. This broadens the potential application of HPDI 3.0 across demanding on-road and off-road sectors.

Cespira emphasizes the near-term value of natural gas and renewable natural gas for heavy-duty transport. HPDI 3.0 enables the use of LNG and bioLNG with diesel-like performance, improved efficiency, and attractive total cost of ownership. The system also maintains a clear pathway for future fuel-specific applications, including hydrogen, as those markets develop.

Cespira's revenue increased by 125% year over year from Q2 2025 to Q2 2026, underscoring strong market validation for HPDI technology.

HPDI 3.0 is expected to enter production in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the first HPDI 3.0-equipped vehicles expected to hit the road in early 2027. The technology is designed to support a wide range of alternative fuels, including natural gas, renewable natural gas, and hydrogen, empowering OEMs and commercial transportation industries to meet performance demands, regulatory requirements, and climate targets in a cost-effective way.

Westport Fuel Systems, headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, is a technology and innovation company focused on providing affordable, alternative fuel, low-emissions transportation technologies. The company's proven technologies support a wide range of alternative fuels, enabling the transition from traditional fuels to cleaner energy solutions.
