The Carvalho Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Mineola, New York, has launched an urgent humanitarian relief effort following a devastating earthquake that struck Panama on October 9, 2026. The magnitude 7.5 earthquake, which was followed by more than 400 aftershocks and a magnitude 6.1 quake on October 12, caused significant damage and disruption.

According to the Panamanian civil protection agency, SINAPROC, the earthquake damaged 656 schools and more than 1,000 homes, leaving 598 people in shelters. The Carvalho Family Foundation, led by Hector Carvalho, is working alongside New York Yankees player José Chema Caballero and the Consulate General of Panama in New York to deliver essential supplies and financial aid directly to affected families.

Through its "United for Panama" initiative, the foundation is collecting financial donations and essential supplies, including diapers, baby formula, baby food, tents, sleeping bags, blankets, hygiene products, and basic medical supplies. Donors can visit eight donation drop-off centers across New York (including Brooklyn and Long Island), New Jersey, and Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), with more locations being added. The collection period is open through October 31, 2026.

The foundation is actively seeking corporate sponsors, community organizations, logistics partners, and additional donation drop-off locations to support the relief efforts.
