CARCGA, the California Regional Common Ground Alliance, is set to host its inaugural California Locate Rodeo on October 24, 2026, at Skyline College in San Bruno, California. The event, which will feature Senator Jerry Hill, aims to celebrate the skill and precision of utility locating professionals and advance damage prevention in the state.
Retired Senator Jerry Hill, a key figure in California’s utility safety landscape, will be the featured guest speaker. Hill sponsored the Dig Safe Act of 2016, which established the California Underground Safety Board and strengthened oversight in the “call 811 before you dig” process. His participation underscores the importance of cooperation and accountability in the excavation process.
The Locate Rodeo will challenge professional locators to demonstrate their technical expertise, accuracy, and field knowledge in identifying and marking underground utilities. Competitors will participate in hands-on locating challenges across four utility categories: telecom, power, water, and gas. The event will test their ability to accurately identify underground facilities while adhering to industry best practices.
Top competitors will earn cash prizes, with the leading performers advancing to a Grand Finale competition. In addition to the locating competition, the event will provide opportunities for attendees to connect with colleagues, learn from industry partners, and participate in safety-focused demonstrations and activities.
The event is open to competitors, sponsors, volunteers, and members of the damage prevention community. Space for competitors is limited, and interested parties should register by the start time of 8:30 a.m. on October 24, 2026.
