Carbon Fiber Recycling's rCF Microfiber Reduces Concrete Cracking by 42.4%

Carbon Fiber Recycling (CFR), based in Tazewell, Tennessee, has announced significant advancements in its rCF Microfiber, which delivers effective plastic shrinkage crack control in concrete at just 0.25 pounds per cubic yard (lb/yd³). The company's innovative product has shown impressive results, reducing plastic shrinkage crack width by 42.4% at this dosage and 75% at 0.75 lb/yd³. These findings are particularly noteworthy as they exceed the 40% threshold commonly required by ICC-ES AC32.

"These results give engineers and contractors real choice," Doug Griffin, CEO of CFR, stated. "With rCF Microfiber, they can meet the specification requirements with 0.25 lb/yd³ or achieve maximum crack control by increasing the dosage to 0.75 lb/yd³ or higher."

The rCF Microfiber not only meets stringent performance standards but also offers a significant sustainability advantage. According to CFR, it delivers approximately 60 to 66 times lower embodied carbon per cubic yard compared to conventional polypropylene microfibers at equivalent dosages. This makes it an attractive option for contractors and ready-mix producers who are increasingly focused on reducing their environmental footprint without compromising on performance.

"Contractors and ready-mix producers no longer have to choose between performance and sustainability," Griffin added. "rCF Microfiber provides both, and at a competitive cost."

Full technical details, including complete test data and a side-by-side comparison with conventional polypropylene microfibers, are available in CFR’s new Technical Bulletin. The bulletin can be accessed on the company’s website.

Founded in 2018, Carbon Fiber Recycling operates North America’s first fully integrated continuous-flow carbon fiber recycling facility. The company transforms prepreg scrap, cured composites, and dry fiber waste into high-quality recycled carbon fiber products, including milled, chopped, and custom-length fibers for use in composites, thermoplastics, concrete, and other high-performance applications. CFR’s patented process ensures 100% pure recycled carbon fiber with consistent quality and full traceability.
