Captain Skully Series Combines Adventure, Courage, Kindness

A life shaped by boats, oceans, and adventure has given rise to a growing children's book series that celebrates the values of courage, kindness, and friendship. Blaine Parks, a former corporate executive who now captains a sailboat, has created Captain Skully and The Skullywags, a band of unlikely pirates whose adventures blend classic swashbuckling fun with lessons about friendship, courage, and kindness.

The concept for Captain Skully and The Skullywags grew from Parks' unconventional life. After leaving the corporate world, he spent years living and cruising aboard a sailboat along the East Coast, through the Florida Keys, and across the Bahamas. His work as a yacht captain still takes him from port to port around the world.

In time, those experiences became stories and eventually made their way onto the page through magazine and newsletter articles and, now, through Captain Skully and The Skullywags adventure coloring books. The series has expanded into the broader Captain Skully Adventure Books™ collection, which includes coloring and activity experiences, illustrated stories, and other creative projects featuring the characters.

The Captain Skully world now extends beyond print with the Official Captain Skully and The Skullywags Soundtrack, a seven-song collection inspired by the characters and their adventures. The music expands the stories and offers children another way to join the fun: reading the adventures, coloring the characters, and singing along with the crew.

For Parks, a longtime singer-songwriter as well as a captain and author, adding music was a natural extension of the stories.

Three words anchor the entire project: Adventure. Courage. Kindness. The series is already reaching readers beyond the United States, showing that pirate adventures, and the values they carry, can cross borders.

For Parks, the mission goes beyond selling children's books.

The Captain Skully universe continues to grow, with new stories, activities, and music in development. Readers, parents, educators, and organizations can learn more about Captain Skully and The Skullywags at CaptainSkullyAdventures.com.
