TORONTO, Sept. 28, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The annual Canada’s Favourite Crossing Guard contest, launched in 2005 to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of crossing guards who help keep children safe, has once again garnered significant attention. Since 2022, the contest has been supported by Desjardins Insurance, the exclusive road-safety partner. This year, three crossing guards in Canada will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to their communities, each receiving $500, as will their respective schools.
The contest, which has drawn a record 814 nominations for 126 crossing guards from five provinces, has become a vital part of Canada’s safety landscape. Each year, crossing guards play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of children as they cross streets, providing care and creating a sense of community in their neighborhoods. By promoting walking and cycling to and from school, crossing guards encourage families to embrace healthier lifestyles.
Parachute, Canada’s leaders in injury prevention, has spearheaded the contest, which aims to celebrate these safety champions. The contest not only recognizes the invaluable work of crossing guards but also highlights the positive impact they have on their communities. Through the contest, Parachute and Desjardins Insurance are able to shine a spotlight on the dedication and commitment of these local heroes.
Nominations for the contest are now open and will close on Friday, November 6, 2026. To nominate a crossing guard, individuals can visit the Parachute website at parachute.ca/crossingguardnomination. Nominators will be asked to describe why the guard deserves recognition and can upload up to four supporting documents, such as photos or a child’s drawing.
