WESTMINSTER, Colo., Oct. 7, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Camp Bow Wow, the leading dog daycare and boarding franchise, has revealed the most searched dog Halloween costumes this year, according to Google Trends data. The hot dog costume topped the list, followed by chicken, shark, spider, princess, ghost, dinosaur, pumpkin, dragon, and lion.
Pet parents across the country are expected to spend nearly $1 billion on pet costumes this Halloween, according to the National Retail Federation. The enthusiasm for Halloween is particularly high in Wyoming, with New Hampshire, Utah, California, and Colorado following closely.
Holle Janzen, senior manager of training at Camp Bow Wow, offers tips to ensure dogs remain safe and comfortable during the holiday.
To keep dogs safe, Janzen recommends: - Ensuring the costume allows the dog to see clearly and move comfortably. - Getting the right fit, as a poorly fitting costume can restrict movement or breathing. - Adding reflective gear for dogs going trick-or-treating after dark. - Checking for fire hazards, especially with glow sticks and battery-powered lights. - Avoiding makeup and hairspray, as they can be toxic if ingested.
General Halloween safety tips include: - Keeping candy out of reach to prevent ingestion of harmful substances like chocolate or xylitol. - Being cautious around the front door to prevent dogs from slipping out. - Considering a Boo-cation at Camp Bow Wow for dogs that get anxious during the holiday.
