ROCKDALE, Texas, Sept. 30, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- The Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA), the largest animal welfare organization in the Mid-Atlantic region, serving three states and Washington, DC, has accepted 52 dogs voluntarily surrendered by Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary Rescue and Rehab (Dogtown Ranch) in Rockdale, Texas. BVSPCA, which was founded in 1929 and is the first open-admission no-kill shelter in Pennsylvania and Delaware, has accepted the dogs for care. In 2025, the BVSPCA cared for more than 27,000 lost, stray, owner-surrendered, abused, and neglected animals while achieving a 94% live release rate.

The Milam County Sheriff's Office in Rockdale, Texas, has coordinated with the BVSPCA to provide care for the 52 dogs. BVSPCA staff, including CEO Adam Lamb and Aimee Sadler, founder of Dogs Playing for Life, which is now affiliated with BVSPCA, traveled to Texas to work on site. The team assessed and transported the dogs to a temporary shelter where they are being cared for and prepared for adoption. A leader in the no-kill movement, BVSPCA brings its veterinary resources, progressive sheltering policies, network of shelter partners, and commitment to helping animals in need, wherever they are.

One of the dogs found severely underweight and barely responsive was rushed to an emergency vet, where she is receiving care as she fights to survive. The BVSPCA's focus is on these dogs, getting them the medical care and attention they need and helping them find homes. The organization is on track to care for more than 30,000 animals this year, including the 52 dogs from Dogtown Ranch.

BVSPCA, which has negotiated a voluntary surrender to get the dogs on the path to a brighter future, is asking for community support through donations to help provide medical care, transportation, and daily needs for these dogs and other animals in its care. Texas shelters and rescue organizations interested in helping place the dogs locally can contact the BVSPCA at bvspca.org/DogtownRescue. The BVSPCA will share updates as the dogs progress in their care.

The Milam County Sheriff's Office, in response to the dogs' surrender, has continued to monitor conditions at Dogtown Ranch and will respond to new, credible, and verifiable evidence of animal cruelty or abuse. The Milam County Sheriff's Office is grateful to coordinate with Brandywine Valley SPCA on their efforts to bring additional care and resources to the animals at Dogtown Ranch and Sanctuary.
