MILAN, Oct 14, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Bracco Imaging and Genera New Energy have inaugurated a biomethane production facility in Tuscany, Italy, marking a significant step in their joint efforts to reduce industrial emissions and advance long-term sustainability objectives. The project, which combines Bracco's direct involvement with Genera New Energy's expertise in sustainable energy infrastructure, is expected to play a crucial role in Bracco's emissions reduction strategy.
The facility, located in Tuscany, is designed to produce biomethane, a renewable gas that will replace a significant portion of the natural gas used by Bracco Imaging's thermal power plant in Ceriano Laghetto. According to the press release, the annual production of biomethane will be equivalent to approximately 35% of the natural gas currently consumed by the thermal power plant to generate steam for manufacturing processes. This shift is expected to contribute to the avoidance of approximately 8,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent over the next 15 years, aligning with Bracco's 2024 emissions reduction roadmap.
In March 2025, Bracco Imaging and Genera New Energy entered into a co-development and co-investment agreement to convert the existing Greenway facility. The conversion work began in March 2025 and was completed in September 2026. Genera Group, the industrial and majority investment partner in the project, has combined its financial, development, and operational capabilities across the biomethane value chain. Through Genera New Energy S.p.A. Società Benefit, the Group has invested alongside Bracco in the conversion of the facility and led its development, while Greenway Srl is responsible for its operation.
The project builds on Bracco's broader sustainability program, which includes many initiatives to improve energy generation and reduce energy consumption and emissions across all its operations. In July 2026, Bracco Imaging received its second consecutive EcoVadis Platinum Medal, the highest level of recognition awarded by EcoVadis, placing the company among the top 1% of companies assessed over the 12-month period.
Following the completion of the facility, Bracco and Genera New Energy are now entering the operational phase, ensuring reliable, efficient, and long-lasting performance while creating value for the local area. This is their way of making a tangible contribution to Bracco's forward-looking emissions reduction strategy.
