Boston Harbor Auctions November 7 Nautical Antiques Auction

Boston Harbor Auctions is set to host a grand nautical antiques auction on November 7, 2026, featuring a diverse collection of maritime artifacts. The auction, titled "A Grand Nautical Antiques Auction," will take place at the auction house’s location at 483 Washington Street, Norwell, Massachusetts, starting at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. More than 450 lots are scheduled for sale, offering a wide array of items for maritime enthusiasts and collectors.

Among the highlights of the auction are 27 engine order telegraphs and 20 binnacles from the Jason Pilalas Collection. These items, along with other British Royal Navy artifacts, will be on display. The collection includes historic ship's bells, naval treadplates, and badges, reflecting different aspects of British naval history, including shipboard identification, ceremonial traditions, and equipment used aboard military vessels. These objects may be of particular interest to maritime historians, naval memorabilia collectors, and institutions involved in preserving maritime heritage.

The auction will also feature a wide array of maritime instruments and shipboard equipment. More than 60 maritime lanterns, over 30 compasses, 17 ship's bells, and approximately 75 ship models will be up for bidding. These items represent various periods of seafaring history and include both functional shipboard equipment and decorative maritime objects. The selection encompasses everything from engine order telegraphs used to communicate operational commands between a vessel's bridge and engine room to binnacles that housed magnetic compasses and provided navigational reference points for ship officers.
