Bob MacIntyre Leads Whiskey Spelling Campaign During National Bourbon Heritage Month

In a bid to unite whiskey enthusiasts from both sides of the Atlantic, PGA TOUR professional and Elijah Craig brand ambassador Bob MacIntyre is leading a campaign to standardize the spelling of the beloved spirit: whiskey or whisky? As National Bourbon Heritage Month kicks off this September, the iconic American whiskey brand is inviting fans to vote on their preferred spelling.

MacIntyre, who currently ranks ninth in the world, reveals his preference for the spelling "whiskey" in a new video, a nod to Elijah Craig, the American whiskey pioneer. "I've spent a lot of time on both sides of the Atlantic, and what I've learned is that great whiskey, with or without the 'e,' is rooted in craftsmanship, tradition, and bringing people together," MacIntyre stated. "As a proud Scot, I'll always have a fondness for my Scotch whisky roots, but in the spirit of bourbon's U.S. heritage and bringing whiskey lovers together, the 'e' deserves its place."

Fans can participate in the spelling contest by visiting ElijahCraig.com. Voting is open from September 1 through September 29 at 11:59 PM. The results will be announced on September 30, the last day of National Bourbon Heritage Month. The decision will be shared on Elijah Craig's Instagram page.

This initiative follows MacIntyre's previous invitation to Scotch lovers to try a dram of Bourbon on International Whiskey Day in March. "On International Whiskey Day, I encouraged Scotch fans to swap their traditional spirit for a taste of Bourbon, ideally with Elijah Craig, the Official Bourbon of the PGA of America and the Ryder Cup," MacIntyre said.

For Scotch enthusiasts looking to embrace the 'e' in their whiskey rotation, Elijah Craig offers a range of award-winning spirits. The brand's Small Batch, known for its distinctive warm spice, Toasted Barrel, which undergoes a second toasted finish for added complexity, and Straight Rye, with notes of rich baking spices and honey, are top picks.

Its inaugural Barrel Proof Rye release in 2025 was named Whisky Advocate's Whiskey of the Year. The Reverend Elijah Craig, the brand's namesake, is credited with being the first distiller to age his wares in charred oak barrels, a practice that transformed clear, unaged corn liquor into the bold amber liquid we recognize today.

The Elijah Craig Small Batch, Elijah Craig Straight Rye Whiskey, Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, and Elijah Craig Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey are among the brand's offerings. These whiskeys are known for their superb craftsmanship, rich flavor, and attention to detail. Along with Whisky Advocate's Whiskey of the Year, the brand has received numerous accolades, including Best Small Batch Bourbon, Best Single Barrel Bourbon (aged 11+ years), and Best Straight Bourbon at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
