BMS Aerospace, a family-owned manufacturer based in Southington, Connecticut, has been named the inaugural Innovation Award recipient by ManufactureCT, the state’s oldest industry group. The award recognizes BMS Aerospace for its innovative use of advanced 5-axis laser technology and process redesign, which has significantly reduced manufacturing time by approximately 92 percent, freeing up nearly 38,000 hours of annual capacity to support additional customer demand.
BMS Aerospace, established as a metal-spinning business, has expanded its capabilities to include advanced machining, non-conventional machining, welding, fabrication, heat treating, and laser technology.
The annual celebration, which honored BMS Aerospace with the Innovation Award, also recognized legislative leaders and a long-standing member of the organization. State Senator Rob Sampson and State Representative Tracy Marra were honored for their contributions to the manufacturing community. Senator Sampson was recognized for his efforts to reduce regulatory burdens, control government spending, and improve Connecticut’s business climate. Representative Marra was honored for her accessibility to manufacturers and support for policies promoting economic growth, innovation, and job creation.
ManufactureCT, founded in 1913 as the New Haven Manufacturers Association, is among the longest-running industry groups in the United States. In 2019, the organization expanded its focus statewide, creating a forum for manufacturing, community, and business leaders to share perspectives and build collective strength for the sector. Microboard, a woman-owned electronics manufacturer, received ManufactureCT’s Longevity Award, recognizing 20 years of membership in the organization.
The event featured remarks from Connecticut Chief Manufacturing Officer Kirti Patel and a keynote presentation by Paul D. Assaiante, renowned Trinity College squash head coach and author of Run to the Roar: Coaching to Overcome Fear. Assaiante shared lessons on leadership, resilience, and building successful teams drawn from his career in collegiate athletics.
BMS Aerospace’s journey from a metal-spinning business to a leader in advanced manufacturing technology exemplifies the organization’s commitment to innovation and excellence. The company’s ability to integrate new technology with decades of manufacturing knowledge has not only reduced production time but also enhanced its capacity to meet customer demands.
