Bio-Techne validates greenhouse gas reduction targets under Science Based Targets initiative

Bio-Techne Corporation, a global provider of life science tools and diagnostic products, has made significant strides in its environmental sustainability efforts, according to a recent press release. The company has validated its greenhouse gas reduction targets under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), setting ambitious goals for reducing emissions and promoting sustainable practices across its operations and supply chain.
In the fiscal year 2026, Bio-Techne achieved a 49% reduction in market-based Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to the previous year. This reduction reflects the company's commitment to lowering its carbon footprint while continuing to support scientific and diagnostic innovation. Additionally, Bio-Techne completed its first comprehensive Scope 3 emissions inventory, providing a detailed overview of the emissions generated throughout its entire value chain.

Bio-Techne's renewable energy initiatives have also seen significant progress. The company has fully transitioned its Minneapolis headquarters to 100% renewable electricity, while it is now procuring renewable energy for its St. Paul Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility. As a result, 51% of Bio-Techne's total electricity consumption is now derived from renewable sources.
"These achievements highlight our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and our desire to lead by example in the life sciences industry," added Kelderman.
According to the press release, Bio-Techne aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by fiscal year 2031, based on a 2025 baseline. Furthermore, the company plans to ensure that 81% of its suppliers by spend will have science-based targets by fiscal year 2030, further reinforcing its commitment to sustainable business practices.
Bio-Techne, headquartered in Minnesota and celebrating 50 years of service, operates in 34 global locations and employs more than 3,000 people. In fiscal year 2026, the company generated over $1.2 billion in net sales, underscoring its significant presence in the life sciences market.
The validation of Bio-Techne's climate targets and the company's ongoing efforts to reduce emissions and promote sustainability indicate a commitment to responsible growth and environmental stewardship.
