Binary Defense, a managed detection and response (MDR) provider, has appointed Dr. Aaron Estes as Chief Product Officer. This move comes as the company looks to drive its vision for an agentic security operations center (SOC) that enhances human analysts' capabilities through artificial intelligence (AI).
Dr. Estes, who previously served as the Vice President of Product at Binary Defense since November 2025, will now oversee the company’s product strategy. His role will focus on building an SOC that leverages AI to make human analysts more efficient and effective. Specifically, he will work on developing AI solutions that can handle much of the routine investigation and response work, allowing analysts to focus on strategic decision-making.
"Under Aaron's leadership, we are poised to reimagine the SOC for a world dominated by AI-powered threats," said Dave Kennedy, Founder and CEO of Binary Defense. "The next few years will belong to teams that integrate human instinct with AI speed, and Aaron is leading us in that direction."
Dr. Estes brings extensive experience in software engineering and cybersecurity. He has worked at Lockheed Martin for nearly two decades, where he was named a three-time Lockheed Martin Fellow. He later served as CEO of Ironwood Cyber, where he developed a SaaS penetration-testing platform. He is also an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University and the University of California, Berkeley, where he teaches graduate cybersecurity courses.
NightBeacon CMD, a key product under Dr. Estes' purview, is an SOC platform designed to run Binary Defense's operations. It pairs human instinct with AI speed, enabling customers to decide on the operational aspects of the platform. The company is also developing NightBeacon Stealth, which targets a threat often overlooked in the market: attackers who now use AI for reconnaissance and intrusions. Stealth uses deception and malware disruption to feed false signals to automated attack tools, breaking AI-driven reconnaissance and stalling AI-powered intrusions.
Jason Vest, Chief Technology Officer of Binary Defense, highlighted the importance of these products. "NightBeacon has earned our clients' trust by consistently enabling the outcomes they need," he said.
Binary Defense’s mission is to bring an attacker's mindset to every engagement, blending human instinct with AI speed to deliver proactive, risk-focused security outcomes. The company’s team of SOC analysts, threat hunters, detection engineers, and threat researchers work tirelessly to detect threats earlier, investigate faster, and respond with precision across endpoints, networks, identity, and cloud.
Through Dr. Estes' leadership, Binary Defense aims to build an SOC that not only adapts to the evolving threat landscape but also turns the attacker's own AI into a liability. The company's vision is to create an agentic SOC where AI supports human analysts, ensuring that the human remains in command.
