OLATHE, Kan., Oct. 13, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Avcon Industries, Inc., a subsidiary of Butler National Corporation (OTCQX: BUKS), has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval for the installation of the Honeywell Aerospace MKV-A Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) on Bombardier and Learjet aircraft. This approval provides a replacement path for Mark V computers using existing avionics racks, marking a significant update for operators of these aircraft.

The FAA mandated the installation of EGPWS or Terrain Awareness and Warning Systems (TAWS) equipment on turbine-powered airplanes with six or more passenger seats in 2000. This includes Bombardier and Learjet airplanes, except certain Model 23/24 airframes. The STC, listed as ST12439CH, allows for the replacement of the Honeywell Aerospace MKV EGPWS computer with the MKV-A in the specified models of Bombardier and Learjet aircraft. These include the Learjet Models 40/45 and 60, as well as the Bombardier Models CL-600-1A11 (600), CL-600-2A12 (601), CL-600-2B16 (601-3A Variant), CL-600-2B16 (601-3R Variant), CL-600-2B16 (604 Variant), BD-700-1A10, and BD-700-1A11.

Avcon Industries, Inc. is committed to supporting customers with FAA-approved solutions to obsolescence. The MKV-A EGPWS offers higher resolution databases, enhanced safety and situational awareness, and resilience to GPS jamming and spoofing. It is designed as a drop-in replacement for the operator's existing MKV, with options for future upgrades. All equipment associated with the modification is anticipated to be sourced from Honeywell Aerospace, and the MKV-A EGPWS computers are available for shipment.

Avcon is in the process of applying for Transport Canada (TC), European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), and United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) validation/approval of the FAA STC. The company's New Century, Kansas facility, as well as the operator's qualified avionics modification center, can handle this modification.

The release also notes that Avcon is recognized for providing solutions to regulatory-driven aircraft modifications and operates in the Aerospace business, focusing on the modification of business and commercial aircraft, including both complex structural modifications and system integrations.

The MKV-A EGPWS continues with industry-leading enhancements to the EGPWS product line at Honeywell Aerospace, offering higher resolution databases, enhanced safety and situational awareness, and resilience to GPS jamming and spoofing. The installation uses existing avionics racks and is designed to minimize installation effort, making it a practical and efficient solution for operators of the specified aircraft models.

Avcon Industries, Inc. operates in the Aerospace business and focuses on the modification of business and commercial aircraft, which includes both complex structural modifications and system integrations.
