LONDON, Sept. 24, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Atmail, a global provider of email technology and managed email services for telecommunications companies and internet service providers, has announced its acquisition of Virgin Media’s consumer email service. The move provides a responsible long-term solution for Virgin Media’s customers who wish to retain their existing email addresses, while enabling Virgin Media to exit legacy email operations, reduce associated costs and risks, and focus investment on its core connectivity services.

The acquisition of Virgin Media’s consumer email service is part of a growing trend within the telecommunications industry to divest or retire legacy email services. Virgin Media, in particular, has decided to transfer the remaining Virgin Media email accounts to Junara, one of Atmail’s consumer email brands, to give customers a clear route to keep their existing Virgin Media email addresses if they choose to do so.

Under the agreement, Virgin Media customers who opt to move to Junara will be able to keep their existing Virgin Media email addresses, supported by an email specialist with nearly 30 years of experience. Virgin Media will provide a 45-day window for customers to either sign up with Junara, move to an alternative email provider, or close their account. To support customers through this transition, Virgin Media will offer the first year of service with Junara free of charge.

The acquisition of Virgin Media’s consumer email service marks a significant step for Atmail, which has already completed email divestments involving more than 40 major brands across 10 countries and migrated millions of mailboxes. The Virgin Media agreement builds on this experience and reflects a broader structural change across the sector, as telecommunications businesses concentrate on their core connectivity products, leaving specialist providers like Atmail increasingly well-placed to operate established consumer email services.

The transition will be carried out progressively to support service continuity. Customers who want to retain their existing Virgin Media email address will be able to sign up with Junara, while those who prefer to move to another provider or simply close their account will have the option to do so. Virgin Media will communicate directly with affected customers in phases, providing information about their options, key dates, and the support available.

The acquisition of Virgin Media’s consumer email service underscores the growing trend within the telecommunications industry to divest or retire legacy email services, and highlights the increasing role of specialist providers like Atmail in managing these services. The move will allow Virgin Media to focus on its core connectivity services, such as broadband, mobile, and other connectivity services, while Atmail will continue to provide a dedicated, long-term home for email services that remain important to their customers.
