ATLANTA, Sept. 17, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Atlanticus Holdings Corporation has completed the sale of its CAR Auto Finance operations, a significant move that will reshape the company’s focus and financial landscape. According to Jeff Howard, the President and CEO of Atlanticus, the transaction marks a strategic shift in the company’s portfolio.

CAR, which comprised 100% of Atlanticus’s Auto Finance segment, has now been sold to an unaffiliated third party. The total consideration for the sale was approximately $71.2 million, broken down into $56.2 million in cash and a $15.0 million seller note. Approximately 154 team members associated with CAR are transitioning to the buyer as part of the transaction.

Howard expressed gratitude to the CAR team, acknowledging their contributions to the company’s success.

The sale is expected to strengthen Atlanticus’s balance sheet, allowing the company to concentrate its capital and management resources on the consumer credit products where it sees the greatest opportunities for long-term value creation and growth.

Atlanticus plans to use the cash proceeds from the sale to reduce debt and invest in higher-growth product lines. The company’s mission remains unchanged: empowering better financial outcomes for everyday Americans by enabling bank, retail, and healthcare partners to offer more inclusive financial solutions.

The sale of CAR Auto Finance operations underscores Atlanticus’s commitment to strategic realignment and capital optimization. With this move, the company aims to enhance its competitive position in the consumer credit market, leveraging its proprietary technology and advanced analytics to support lenders across a broad range of consumer credit products.
