Astera Labs Unveils Aries 7 Portfolio for PCIe 7 Connectivity

News related to:Astera Labs · 2 min read

Astera Labs, a leader in semiconductor-based connectivity solutions for rack-scale AI infrastructure, has unveiled its Aries 7 portfolio, the industry’s first comprehensive PCIe 7 signal conditioning solution that spans both copper and optical interconnects. This new portfolio includes retimers, redrivers, cable modules, optical drivers, and optical transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs), designed to support diverse PCIe 7 connectivity in AI systems.

The Aries 7 portfolio is engineered to enable PCIe 7 connectivity across various distances, from chip-down solutions to 50+ meters over optical cables, spanning multiple racks. This flexibility allows customers to optimize for reach, power, and density for each link in an AI cluster, ensuring efficient and reliable data transfer.

Adit Narasimha, senior vice president of the Signal Connectivity Group at Astera Labs, emphasized the importance of a unified approach to signal conditioning.

The Aries 7 Smart Retimers and Smart Redrivers support the OCP Signal Conditioner Standard Footprint, allowing customers to design once and decide later. As design requirements change, customers can pick different signal conditioners without redesigning the board, optimizing for power and accelerating time-to-market.

Aries 7 Smart Optical Drivers and Optical TIAs enable the same intelligence in low power, high density near package optics (NPO) and linear pluggable optics (LPO), designed to deliver optimum performance across multi-rack AI fabrics. These components are expected to begin sampling in Q4 2026 to select hyperscale, OEM, and NPO customers, with broader availability anticipated as platforms complete qualification.

Astera Labs has collaborated with industry leaders AMD and Intel, who have validated Aries Smart Retimers in production across their platforms from PCIe 4 through 6. Both companies are now working with Astera Labs to lead the industry's transition to PCIe 7. Additionally, the company has partnered with Lumentum and Lumilens to ensure the seamless integration of optical solutions.

At the 2026 Open Compute Project (OCP) Global Summit, Astera Labs will showcase PCIe 7 copper and optical demonstrations. The summit, taking place in San Jose from October 12-15, will provide a platform for industry experts to explore the latest advancements in AI infrastructure.

Astera Labs’ Intelligent Connectivity Platform integrates CXL®, Ethernet, NVLink Fusion, PCIe®, and UALink™ semiconductor-based technologies with the company’s COSMOS software suite to unify diverse components into cohesive, flexible systems that deliver end-to-end scale-up and scale-out connectivity. The company’s custom connectivity solutions business complements its standards-based portfolio, enabling customers to deploy tailored architectures to meet their unique infrastructure requirements.

The Aries 7 portfolio is expected to play a crucial role in the development of multi-rack AI clusters, which are demanding more bandwidth between every accelerator, memory pool, and networking port. By providing a comprehensive connectivity platform that spans both copper and optical interconnects, Astera Labs aims to address the challenges of doubling PCIe data rates and shrinking signal margins.
