Astemo Americas to Invest Over $112 Million, Add 114 Jobs in Kentucky
Astemo Americas, a major player in the automotive industry, is set to invest more than $112 million in expanding its manufacturing operations in Madison County, Kentucky. This significant investment will add 114 new jobs and nearly 300,000 square feet of production and warehouse space to its existing facilities in Berea, Kentucky. The move is part of a multi-year plan that aims to create a total of 282 new jobs and increase production of hybrid electric-vehicle (EV) powertrain components.
The expansion is expected to have a substantial economic impact on the region. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear emphasized the importance of the project, stating, "This Astemo expansion project represents one of the largest single investments in Madison County in recent years and will result in a near-record number of new jobs for the county over the next several years."
Tim Clark, president and CEO of Astemo Americas, expressed his gratitude for the support and noted, "Since we opened our first Kentucky plant in 1985, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has been a cornerstone of our U.S. operations. We especially appreciate the continued support of the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority in helping us expand our operations in Berea to provide our customers with cutting-edge automotive components."
The Berea operations currently produce chassis and electric powertrain components, complementing Astemo's other facility in Harrodsburg, which manufactures electric-powertrain and engine-management systems. The company's global reach includes nearly 15,000 employees at 23 manufacturing sites across the Americas, with almost 6,000 employees at 12 plants in the United States.
Berea Mayor Bruce Fraley highlighted the broader impact of the expansion, saying, "Astemo's growth here will generate jobs and career opportunities throughout the area beyond the 114 new openings at the company's two Berea plants. Our city looks forward to continued growth along with our largest single employer, Astemo Americas."
Astemo Americas, a division of the global automotive industry giant Astemo, Ltd., is committed to sustainable development and enhancing corporate value. The company's plans extend beyond Kentucky, with a new development center and regional headquarters in Wixom, Michigan, set to create 200 new jobs in the region.
