WALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 12, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Ardelyx, a biopharmaceutical company focused on innovative medicines, presented significant findings at the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting, showcasing a real-world analysis of 470 patients with irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C). The analysis revealed a substantial reduction in healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) following the initiation of IBSRELA® (tenapanor), a locally acting inhibitor of sodium/hydrogen exchanger 3 (NHE3).

The study, which was an observational real-world analysis, observed a significant drop in HCRU from 4.5 visits in the year before tenapanor initiation to 3.0 visits in the year following initiation. This reduction was statistically significant, with a median of 4.5 visits in the year before tenapanor initiation dropping to 3.0 visits in the year after (IQR: 1, 6) versus 4.5 visits (IQR: 2, 9), with a P-value less than 0.001.

Additionally, the analysis also showed that tenapanor reduced the need for healthcare services among patients who had previously tried at least one IBS-C medication, regardless of their body mass index (BMI) or comorbidity burden.

Ardelyx will also present data on how IBS-C symptom burden affects quality of life, along with the design and rationale of an ongoing Phase 3 study evaluating tenapanor in adults with chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC).

IBSRELA® (tenapanor) is a locally acting inhibitor of sodium/hydrogen exchanger 3 (NHE3), an antiporter expressed on the apical surface of the small intestine and colon. By inhibiting NHE3, tenapanor reduces the absorption of sodium from the small intestine and colon, retaining luminal water content, accelerating intestinal transit time, and resulting in a softer stool consistency.

The release also notes that Ardelyx is committed to generating evidence that deepens our understanding of constipation-related disorders, helps inform patient care, and supports continued research into the potential role of tenapanor beyond IBS-C.

Ardelyx, a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company, has two commercial products approved in the United States, IBSRELA® (tenapanor) and XPHOZAH® (tenapanor). The company's pipeline includes the Phase 3 development of IBSRELA for chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) and RDX10531, a next-generation NHE3 inhibitor with potential application across multiple therapeutic areas.

The company's current expectations include the anticipated presentations at the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting, including the timing and content of the poster presentations and the Product Theater session.
