Amorepacific Museum of Art Presents Sol LeWitt Exhibition

Amorepacific Museum of Art (APMA) in Seoul is set to present a comprehensive exhibition dedicated to the renowned conceptual artist Sol LeWitt, marking the first major survey of his work in Korea. The exhibition, titled "Sol LeWitt: Open Structure," will open on September 1, 2026, and run through February 28, 2027. Featuring 45 works, including 13 wall drawings realized according to LeWitt’s instructions, the exhibition aims to offer visitors a deep dive into the artist’s practice.

LeWitt, a pivotal figure in the development of Conceptual art since the 1960s, is celebrated for his exploration of how a single idea can be realized in multiple forms through simple geometric elements, rules, and repetition. The exhibition, organized in collaboration with The LeWitt Estate and expanded from a touring presentation at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (MOT), will showcase a range of mediums, from wall drawings and structures to paintings, photographs, prints, and archival materials. This diverse collection is designed to trace LeWitt’s evolution from his early structural works to his later color-based compositions.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is the installation of 13 wall drawings, which are recreated based on LeWitt’s written instructions. These drawings are typically installed by artists trained by The LeWitt Estate, but for the APMA presentation, they are being realized by 23 art students from universities and graduate schools across Korea. Working under the guidance of trained representatives from The LeWitt Estate, the participants will interpret the artist’s instructions, providing a unique insight into the distinctive process through which LeWitt’s works are brought to life.

To enrich the viewing experience, APMA has organized a series of programs that include lectures and curator-led tours. These events are intended to deepen the understanding of LeWitt’s ideas and working methods, while highlighting the key principles of Conceptual art. The exhibition is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the exception of Mondays, and will be held at APMA’s location in Seoul, Korea.
