BROOKLYN, N.Y., Oct. 21, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Thirty-six-year-old Brooklyn native Amanda Ortiz, born with Down Syndrome, has released her debut album, "Dear Amanda," a powerful collection of original songs penned by Ortiz herself. The album, which features contributions from Grammy Award-winning singer Stephanie Mills, marks a significant milestone in Ortiz’s creative journey.

Ortiz, who has always been drawn to performing, credits her grandmother’s love of jazz music for her early interest. She completed online courses at the College of Adaptive Arts in California, where she honed her songwriting skills.

The album, executive produced by Ira Antelis, showcases a diverse range of styles, including jazz, Latin, pop, soul, blues, and country. The songs are deeply personal, touching on themes of love, grief, nature, joy, seasons, color, music, and dance, all expressed in Ortiz’s unique voice.

Stephanie Mills, who has a son with special needs, was immediately drawn to the project.

Ortiz’s mother, Linda Mandracchia, expressed her surprise at the album’s release.

The album, "Dear Amanda," is a testament to the power of perseverance and the audacity to follow one’s dreams. It is a celebration of creativity, determination, and the limitless possibilities of the human spirit.

Ira Antelis, who has worked with artists such as Marc Anthony, Patti LaBelle, Christina Aguilera, and B.B. King, was inspired to help bring this project to life.

At a time when conversations surrounding inclusion and representation are more important than ever, Ortiz is helping redefine what is possible for artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
