The global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, Alstom, has announced a significant order from Västtrafik, the public transportation authority of western Sweden. The order involves the delivery of 35 additional Avelia Stream Nordic X80 trains, bringing the total fleet to 80. This order is worth approximately €350 million and follows the successful entry into service of the first Avelia Stream Nordic trains, reinforcing Västtrafik's long-term partnership with Alstom.

Västtrafik, which is responsible for regional rail services across western Sweden, has exercised an option to receive these additional trains. The exercise of this option reflects Västtrafik's continued confidence in Alstom's ability to deliver a modern, reliable, and sustainable regional fleet. The trains will be delivered over the coming years, with the first trains now operating on the regional rail network in Västra Götaland.

The Avelia Stream Nordic trains are designed to operate in the harsh winter conditions of the Nordic region, capable of withstanding up to 80 centimeters of snow and operating reliably in temperatures as low as -40°C. The trains feature a top speed of 200 km/h and can accommodate 270 passengers across three cars per train. The trains are equipped with energy-efficient systems, including regenerative braking, which helps to reduce energy consumption during operations.

One of the most notable features of the Avelia Stream Nordic trains is their enhanced accessibility and comfort. The trains incorporate step-free boarding, dedicated spaces for wheelchairs, strollers, and real-time information systems, ensuring that passengers have a positive and inclusive travel experience. The trains have also been designed with a modern, contemporary interior that combines Nordic functionality with advanced technology and a strong focus on sustainability.

Västtrafik, under the leadership of Chair Bijan Zainali, has expressed enthusiasm about the new trains, stating that they will provide more modern, spacious, and comfortable public transport for passengers. The trains will also help reduce energy consumption and replace older rolling stock, aligning with Västtrafik's long-term ambition to improve capacity, punctuality, and promote sustainable mobility across western Sweden.

Alstom, the company behind the Avelia Stream Nordic trains, has a long history of delivering high-speed trains to various regions around the world. The Avelia platform, which includes the Avelia Stream Nordic trains, offers a wide variety of configurations and architectures to best fit customer needs. The trains have already received the prestigious Red Dot Award for their cutting-edge design, which combines contemporary interiors with Nordic functionality and advanced technology.

The Avelia Stream Nordic trains are part of Alstom's broader Avelia high-speed train platform, which covers maximum operating speeds between 200 km/h and 320 km/h. With more than 2,200 high-speed trains operating in 25 countries, crossing 20 borders, the Avelia platform is a testament to Alstom's commitment to providing sustainable and efficient transportation solutions.

Västtrafik's order for the Avelia Stream Nordic trains marks an important step in their fleet modernization program. The trains will form the backbone of Västtrafik's regional rail services once all 80 new trains have been delivered. Alstom, in partnership with Västtrafik, is committed to ensuring high availability and long-term operational reliability across the region.
