Alibaba Cloud, Cambricon, and Ant Group have joined the PyTorch Foundation as Platinum, Gold, and Platinum members, respectively, marking a significant step in the advancement of open-source AI infrastructure in China. The move comes at the first-ever KubeCon + CloudNativeCon + OpenInfra Summit + PyTorch Conference China 2026, held in Shanghai from September 7 to 9.
Representatives from Alibaba Cloud, Ant Group, Cambricon, and Huawei will take the keynote stage, discussing the future of the PyTorch ecosystem. Alibaba Cloud's Qwen infrastructure team will present on the platform level, focusing on serving Qwen at massive scale. Huawei will explore hardware-software co-design and the interoperability between Chinese and global AI technology stacks. Cambricon will delve into the chip level, detailing how PyTorch’s device-agnostic foundation is being hardened to support a multi-backend ecosystem. Ant Group will showcase the application layer, demonstrating how Kubernetes Agent Sandbox and Kata Containers can be assembled into a secure, on-demand runtime for AI agents.
Alibaba Cloud, a global leader in full-stack AI services, has developed Qwen, a family of large language and multimodal AI models. Qwen has become one of the most influential and widely adopted open-weight model series since its debut in 2023. As Platinum members, Alibaba Cloud and Cambricon will each have one seat on the PyTorch Foundation Governing Board and the Technical Advisory Council. Both companies will work with the community to strengthen support for hardware and accelerators across the PyTorch ecosystem.
Cambricon, a China-based designer of AI chips and accelerators, supports large-scale model training and inference. As a Platinum member, Cambricon will present on the need for device-agnostic PyTorch and the building of unified infrastructure for a multi-backend ecosystem. Ant Group, a global digital technology company, will demonstrate how cloud-native building blocks can be assembled into a secure, on-demand runtime for AI agents. As a Gold member, Ant Group will contribute to advancing production-grade platforms for AI workloads and deepen collaboration with the broader PyTorch community.
Huawei, a long-standing supporter and contributor to the PyTorch ecosystem, will deliver a keynote on the Ascend & PyTorch collaboration, aiming to pioneer a new AI open ecosystem. Alibaba Cloud, Cambricon, and Ant Group's contributions underscore the importance of open-source collaboration in advancing AI technology in China. By joining the PyTorch Foundation, these organizations are committed to raising the bar for AI infrastructure and helping developers build the next generation of models with confidence.
The PyTorch Foundation, hosted by the Linux Foundation, is the vendor-neutral home for the open source intelligence layer used for training, optimizing, serving, orchestrating, and running models on any chip in any cloud for any agent. With more than 250 organizations contributing to PyTorch Foundation projects, including DeepSpeed, Helion, PyTorch, Ray, Safetensors, and vLLM, the foundation continues to support the core PyTorch framework and a growing portfolio of innovative projects. Through open governance and a global contributor community, the PyTorch Foundation empowers developers, researchers, and enterprises to build and deploy AI at scale.
