Antico Contempo, a contemporary art company founded in late 2024, will showcase the works of Alexander Aboutaam at the San Francisco Fall Show from October 15 to 18, 2026, at Fort Mason. The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., will feature a special gala opening on the 14th. Visitors can explore booth B9, where Aboutaam’s artworks will be on display, including first-time public viewings of his new mosaics and sculptures.
The theme of the San Francisco Fall Show, titled "Métallique Chic," invites viewers to experience the elegance and glamour of metals such as gold leaf, silver filigree, copper patina, platinum polish, pearlescent pewter, and time-worn bronze. Aboutaam’s sculptures and mosaics perfectly align with this theme, offering a blend of modern and ancient aesthetics.
One of the newest sculptures, titled "Portal," is a curvaceous piece that invites viewers to imagine the world of 2000 B.C. in ancient Sumer. Composed of polished brass, the sculpture’s subtle shine is both endearing and eye-catching. Another new sculpture, "Dawn," shares a striking connection with the Antico Contempo logo, designed by Aboutaam. The Anatolian-inspired style, which has been a significant influence on his work, is evident in the burnished red-orange hue of "Dawn," symbolizing the start of a new day.
Among the new mosaics, "Figures" stands out as one of Aboutaam’s most grand pieces. This mosaic, which sits between image and object, antiquity and modernity, invites viewers to interpret the figures’ interactions. Are they arguing, praying, or simply having fun? Aboutaam prefers that the viewers form their own opinions and find what they deem to be beautiful.
The sculptures provide this connection with impressive glit and glamor. The theme of the San Francsico Fall Show is Métallique Chic.
The two newest sculptures fit the theme with style, the first being "Portal." The curvaceous piece invites viewers to 2000 BC in ancient Sumer where eye idols were believed to connect the gods with the human world. Composed of polished brass, the subtle shine is endearing and eye-catching.
The second of the new sculptures is titled "Dawn." Astute observers may notice the connection between this artwork and the logo of Antico Contempo. Both designed by Aboutaam, the Anatolian-esque style has been a major inspiration for his work from the founding of Antico Contempo in late 2024. The burnished red-orange hue likens the beginning of his work to the start of the day, glowing as the sun shines over the horizon.
Among the new mosaics displayed will exhibit one of Aboutaam’s most grand pieces yet, simply titled "Figures." The result sits productively between image and object, antiquity and modernity: an ancient-looking presence reconstructed in the present. The abstraction of the figures’ discussion allows for a variety of interpretations. Are they arguing? Praying? Simply having fun? Rather than answer the question directly, Aboutaam prefers the viewer to form their own opinion and find what they deem to be beautiful.
