AI Agents Bypass Traditional Website Security Measures

AUSTIN, TX, UNITED STATES, September 29, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Filestack, a provider of file upload infrastructure, has revealed a significant shift in the way upload forms are being broken by artificial intelligence (AI) agents. According to the press release, these AI agents are increasingly bypassing the security measures designed to protect websites by mimicking human behavior.

Gartner predicts that by the end of 2026, 40% of enterprise applications will include AI agents built for specific tasks, up from less than 5% in 2025. These agents are being deployed to handle mundane tasks such as filing expenses, onboarding new suppliers, and closing the month by uploading 400 invoices. The rise of these AI agents highlights a growing challenge for website security, as many of the existing protections are based on assumptions that a human is interacting with the form.

For instance, the "prove you are human" tests, which typically involve solving puzzles like traffic lights and crosswalks, are no longer effective against AI agents. These agents are designed to fail such tests by design, rendering them ineffective. As a workaround, websites often provide a separate entrance for automated traffic, but this entrance lacks the necessary security measures to prevent unauthorized access.

The speed limits on uploads, which are set to accommodate human interaction, are also proving inadequate. An AI agent submitting 400 legitimate invoices in a minute can easily appear as an attack, leading websites to either block real work or raise the upload limits for everyone, including potential attackers.

Moreover, the login process, which traditionally relies on passwords and session expiration, is also being compromised. AI agents require credentials that can be carried, and the easiest solution is to provide them with a permanent key that can upload files anywhere and for as long as it exists. This poses a significant security risk, as it bypasses the traditional human verification process.

To address these challenges, Filestack has developed a solution that moves security measures out of the web page and into the request itself. This approach includes limiting permissions to one task and setting them to expire when the task is complete. Filestack also enforces limits on file size and destination, which are enforced by the server rather than the web page. Additionally, the company sends a signed confirmation to the company's systems upon file upload, replacing the need for a progress bar that a human would monitor.

This shift in security measures is crucial for businesses that rely on AI agents to handle routine tasks. Filestack's solution ensures that companies can maintain the security of their systems while still allowing AI agents to perform their duties efficiently.
