Aerska Appoints Laura Sepp-Lorenzino to Scientific Advisory Board

Aerska, a biotechnology company focused on developing RNA medicines for neurological diseases, has appointed Laura Sepp-Lorenzino to its Scientific Advisory Board. This move is aimed at bolstering the company’s efforts to advance its antibody-oligo conjugate (AOC) platform and expand its pipeline of RNA therapeutics.

Sepp-Lorenzino brings extensive experience in the field of genetic medicine, having overseen the development of complex genetic medicines from early discovery through late-stage clinical trials. Her tenure at Intellia Therapeutics, where she served as Chief Scientific Officer, played a crucial role in advancing the company’s CRISPR-based pipeline. Prior to Intellia, she held leadership roles at Vertex Pharmaceuticals and Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, contributing significantly to the development of RNA therapies and gene editing technologies.

Sepp-Lorenzino’s expertise will be invaluable as Aerska continues to develop its AOC platform, which aims to deliver next-generation RNA therapeutics to the central nervous system (CNS). The company’s approach involves leveraging receptor-mediated transport to cross the blood-brain barrier, a significant challenge in the field of neurological drug development.

Stuart Milstein, Chief Platform Officer at Aerska, expressed enthusiasm about Sepp-Lorenzino’s appointment.

Sepp-Lorenzino’s background also includes serving on the boards of several gene therapy companies, including Taysha Gene Therapies, Asklepios Biopharmaceutical (AskBio), Lexeo Therapeutics, and URSA Medicines. She is also President Elect of the Oligonucleotide Therapeutics Society (OTS) and serves on the scientific advisory boards of Thermo Fisher Scientific and Inverna Therapeutics.

Aerska’s CEO, speaking on the appointment, highlighted the significance of Sepp-Lorenzino’s addition to the Scientific Advisory Board.

Sepp-Lorenzino’s career began at Merck & Co., where she led RNAi and oncology drug discovery efforts. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from New York University.

With Sepp-Lorenzino’s appointment, Aerska aims to accelerate the development of its RNA therapeutics, particularly in the treatment of neurological diseases.
