AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 30, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Aeon Industrial and Destinus have been selected as one of 10 finalists in the U.S. Army's xTech|Apex Intercept competition, marking a significant step in their joint effort to develop a low-cost interceptor system for enhanced air and missile defense.
The Army's xTech|Apex Intercept initiative, launched through its FUZE xTech program in partnership with the Capability Program Executive for Defensive Fires, aims to identify cost-effective technologies that can augment the current PATRIOT air and missile defense mission. The competition focuses on increasing interceptor capacity while reducing costs for complex and numerous threats.
Aeon and Destinus submitted a joint proposal that integrates Destinus' expertise in interceptor design and serial production with Aeon's U.S. weapons development, integration, and manufacturing capabilities. The team's solution is designed to meet the Army's requirement for integration with the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) and the M903 launch station, ensuring a seamless and effective defense system.
"We are thrilled with the result," said Naweed Tahmas, CEO of Aeon Industrial.
The team's 140,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, where weapon design and production are integrated under one roof, plays a crucial role in their ability to deliver a cost-effective and scalable solution. The facility includes critical subsystems such as propulsion, fuzing, autonomy, and other advanced technologies.
The Army's selection process is rigorous, with the 10 finalists scheduled to demonstrate their solutions to Army and Department of War subject-matter experts and end users in October. The Army plans to select up to three winners in the category by December 31, 2026.
The competition's success hinges on the ability of the finalists to meet the Army's stringent requirements and deliver a cost-effective solution that can be scaled to meet operational needs. The selected finalists, including Aeon and Destinus, are now poised to showcase their innovations and potentially revolutionize the landscape of air and missile defense.
