PLEASANTON, CA, Sept. 30, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- Pleasanton, CA - September 30, 2026 - Adams Pool Solutions has completed a $5 million renovation of the historic Hayward Plunge, a 1936 indoor public pool located in Memorial Park on Mission Boulevard in Hayward, California. The renovation, which began in the fall of 2025, included the resurfacing of both pools and the rebuilding of the surrounding deck.
The Hayward Plunge, a cherished landmark in the Bay Area, has served as a gathering place for swimmers since its opening in 1936. The facility, belonging to the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, was closed for extensive renovations that aimed to preserve its historical significance and ensure accessibility for all. During the closure, lap swim, lessons, and aqua fitness activities were temporarily relocated to the Arroyo Swim Center.
The renovation project, which was part of a broader $5 million investment, included not only the pools but also various other improvements. These enhancements encompassed parking lot accessibility, electrical repairs, water pipe replacement, interior painting, and modifications to the diving boards and swim lanes. Adams Pool Solutions, a company with a long history of pool construction and renovation, was entrusted with the task of restoring the Hayward Plunge to its former glory.
The company's scope of work on the Hayward Plunge included the resurfacing of both the main pool and the children's pool. The main pool measures 109 feet by 58 feet 8 inches, while the children's pool is 46 feet by 30 feet 5 inches, with a depth ranging from one foot to two and a half feet. Both pools underwent a thorough resurfacing process, with the main pool receiving a finish of Pebble Tec Commercial White Quartz, applied across 52 custom batches, each meticulously matched to ensure a seamless appearance.
The deck surrounding the pools was also rebuilt from the concrete up. The existing waterproofing membrane and coating were completely removed, and where the concrete had spalled, the rebar behind it had corroded. The engineer's repair specification called for saw-cutting the damaged concrete back, chipping down behind the corroded steel, and splicing in new steel where a bar had lost more than 5 percent of its cross-section. In one section, the deck was removed and replaced with a new concrete topping slab poured over galvanized metal decking, carried on the original concrete framing.
The deck received a new waterproofing system, featuring an epoxy vapor barrier on the prepared concrete and a PMMA traffic coating over it. The deck slopes at 2 percent or less in every direction, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for visitors.

The renovation project also included other improvements, such as the installation of a new traffic coating on the deck, which extends up 8 inches onto the wall bases and 6 inches up the grab rails. These enhancements not only improved the aesthetic appeal of the facility but also ensured the safety and accessibility of the Hayward Plunge for all visitors.
