The Ace App, a voice AI app designed for children aged 5 to 12, has introduced a new feature that tracks how children develop critical skills such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and AI literacy. This new feature, dubbed the Rubrics, provides parents with a framework to understand the skills their children are developing through interactions with the app. Developed in collaboration with educators, the rubric includes five areas of focus: critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and AI literacy.

The launch of the new feature comes at a pivotal moment for AI in education, as policymakers grapple with the benefits and risks of integrating AI into children's learning experiences. The new feature gives parents greater visibility into their children's skill development, with guidance indicating whether behaviors are emerging, developing, or excelling.

The app, which uses natural voice conversation and child-friendly animated characters, encourages children to explore questions and curiosities. It asks questions back and encourages children to reason through ideas, while Tinker reinforces learning by having children teach back what they have learned. The app is priced at $7.99 for monthly and $79.99 for yearly subscriptions.

Curiosities.ai, the company behind the Ace App, has developed an internal framework for evaluating how AI systems support child-oriented learning, organized around three pillars: Think, Teach, and Safety. The Think pillar evaluates whether the AI uses Socratic techniques, promotes active reasoning, and preserves the child's agency rather than simply supplying answers. The Teach pillar assesses whether the AI is age-appropriate, truthful, and effective in helping children learn, as well as memory and continuity, and child interests and engagement. The Safety pillar evaluates whether the AI exercises sound judgment and maintains healthy emotional boundaries, alongside instruction following, resistance to sycophancy, and connection with trusted people.

The Ace App, available on the App Store, is priced at $7.99 for monthly and $79.99 for yearly subscriptions. Curiosities.ai, a company backed by Reach Capital and advised by Scott Cook, the co-founder of Intuit, is dedicated to making the future bright for kids through its Ace voice AI app.
