Zurich, Switzerland, Sept. 14, 2026 /CourierPR/ -- ABB, a global technology leader in electrification and automation, has partnered with Ferrari Hypersail, an innovative 100-foot oceanic full-foiling monohull yacht powered by renewable energy systems. This collaboration aims to advance the development of advanced 800 VDC power systems and maximize the performance and resilience of onboard renewable energy in extreme ocean conditions.

The partnership, announced by ABB, brings together ABB's 25+ years of DC technology leadership and Ferrari Hypersail's cutting-edge marine technology. ABB will support the project with expertise across marine power, DC technology, and advanced electrical systems. The goal is to demonstrate how advanced electrification, DC architectures, and intelligent energy management can improve resilience and efficiency under extreme offshore conditions.

Ferrari Hypersail is designed to operate entirely on renewable energy, making it self-sufficient for weeks at a time in some of the most challenging ocean environments. The vessel will generate, store, and manage power for critical navigation, foil controls, safety systems, and propulsion. The DC architecture of the yacht will function as a high-performance, self-sufficient microgrid, operating at 48V and 800 VDC.

Giampiero Frisio, President of ABB’s Electrification business area, emphasized the significance of this partnership. "Ferrari Hypersail is designed to operate in conditions that are as demanding as anything our systems face in industry. ABB's role showcases how electrification and automation technologies help industries outrun and achieve record-breaking performance."

Enrico Voltolini, Project Leader of Ferrari Hypersail, highlighted the technical foundation provided by ABB. "It has to be self-sufficient for weeks at a time in the most hostile ocean environments on earth. Having ABB's electrification expertise connected to the project is a valuable operational advantage."

The project will focus on integrating DC systems, real-time monitoring, intelligent power distribution, and resilience at sea. Insights gained from this endeavor will inform the development of advanced power systems for various industries, including shipping, data centers, and renewable energy infrastructure.

ABB's expertise in DC technology and its commitment to sustainable solutions make it well-suited for this ambitious project. By working with Ferrari Hypersail, ABB aims to push the boundaries of sustainable marine performance and contribute to the advancement of next-generation industrial microgrids.
