The Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL), a bipartisan group focused on foreign aid, made nearly 2 million calls in support of candidates in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections. A4AL-backed candidates won a significant number of battleground races across the country, demonstrating the organization's effectiveness in grassroots organizing and mobilizing support.

In California, Derek Tran won his reelection in a district he had previously won by a mere 0.2% in the 2024 election. In Arizona, Amish Shah secured his seat in the First District, flipping it from a Republican to a Democratic win. William Lawrence, who had previously held the 7th District in Michigan, also won reelection, reversing the Republican gain from the 2024 midterms. Pia Dandiya, who ran in the 22nd District of Florida, won the seat, which had previously been a toss-up and was now favored to go to the Republican Party.

A4AL's endorsement list included 64 candidates, and 57 of these won their respective races. Six of the eight candidates who ran in competitive races were A4AL-endorsed. The success of these candidates is attributed to A4AL's grassroots organizing efforts and the support of a new generation of Americans committed to global leadership.

Vernessa Beharry, the Managing Director of A4AL, attributed the group's success to the power of volunteers who responded to the challenge of foreign aid being under attack. The volunteers mobilized and made nearly 2 million calls in support of candidates who understood the importance of diplomacy and development as essential tools of American strength.

In the three months leading up to the election, A4AL conducted 52 phone banking sessions per week, mobilizing volunteers and interns on a scale rarely seen before. This level of engagement was crucial in swaying the outcome of several competitive races.

A4AL's efforts were not limited to the 2026 midterm elections. The organization's Substack, which has over 130,000 subscribers, and its youth leadership program have attracted over 2,000 participants. In 2026, A4AL volunteers made more than 1,901,428 phone calls for endorsed candidates. The organization's commitment to global development is evident in its endorsement of the Two Penny Pledge, a commitment to dedicate two percent of the federal budget to diplomacy and international assistance. Seven in ten Americans, regardless of political affiliation, support spending two percent of the budget on just international assistance, according to an independent survey by Echelon Insights.

The Alliance for American Leadership, a grassroots movement for global development, has made significant strides in mobilizing support for candidates committed to the Two Penny Pledge. A4AL's efforts have not only secured victories in competitive races but have also demonstrated the power of grassroots organizing and a new generation of Americans committed to advancing American strength and leadership abroad.
