The BSM-2025 Conference, organized by the UK-based journal Progress in High Energy Physics (PHEP), in collaboration with Sabancı Üniversitesi, follows the successful precedents of BSM-2023 and BSM-2021. The conference will take place in Istanbul from October 6 to 9, 2025. It is dedicated to exploring the latest advancements in physics beyond the Standard Model, encompassing particle physics, cosmology, and gravitation. It aims to foster international collaboration among high-energy physicists and facilitate in-depth discussions on cutting-edge theoretical, experimental, and observational developments in the field.

The school focuses on state-of-the-art gaseous detector technologies including MPGDs, (M)RPCs and wire-based detectors. The programme of the school comprises morning lectures by world experts in the field offering an overview on gas detectors physics, detector technologies, simulation and modelling, readout approaches, manufacturing techniques as well as applications, and hands-on exercises on various technologies in the afternoons, with an emphasis on methodologies.

The target audience are PhD students and young scientists working on gaseous detectors or entering the field.

Students are invited to present a poster during a dedicated session of the school.

Registration for students is free. Accommodation, travel and other expenses have to be covered by the participants. Admission to the school is limited.

The morning lecture sessions are open to the community and can be followed in-person or by remote connection. Registration is required.

The LHCP conference series started in 2013 after a successful fusion of two international conferences, “Physics at Large Hadron Collider Conference” and “Hadron Collider Physics Symposium”. In the current decade, after contrasted indications of dwindling and instable energy resources, energy cost rises and severe evidences of climate change, the sustainability of technical infrastructures has been confirmed as an unavoidable demand. New medium and large dimension research infrastructures are forced to face this challenging scenario.

Extreme performance operation and cutting-edge technologies often lead to high power consumption. The development of next generation research and technological infrastructures and the upgrade of existing ones demand new concepts in terms of sustainability, affecting both to new technological concepts and reconsidering the operation of the facilities.

Besides, the clear increase of carbon-free, renewable energy sources, energy-efficient systems, more advanced energy storage integration and smart grids can reduce strain on the energy supply. But this cannot be an excuse for delaying the transition to sustainable infrastructures. In this regard, collaboration among scientists, engineers, environmental experts and scientific policy makers is crucial for devising long-term strategies for sustainable research infrastructure.

Sustainable development and operation of research infrastructures does not limit to energy efficiency considerations; it also encompasses circular economy concepts and a proper life cycle of materials and components, concluding with a responsible management of wastes. Embracing transformative changes towards sustainability means progress and innovation. Research facilities must take a leading position in environmental consciousness and the pursuit of efficient energy solutions, inspiring other sectors.

Renewable energy sources offer hope for a greener future, including solar, wind, and geothermal technologies. Energy-efficient systems and smart grids can mitigate power demand and reduce strain on traditional energy grids. Integrating energy storage and management systems is essential for a stable power supply.

The main goal of this event is to identify the challenges, technical and strategical, to develop and implement sustainable solutions at research infrastructures. This includes sharing experiences on new energy-efficient technologies, energy management at research infrastructures, review how the energy sustainability is faced on the current research projects, analyze life cycle, and discuss about future aims and trends, among other topics. Specific interest will be paid to involve pre-doctoral students into the workshop discussions, to promote the involvement of the young research staff on the event topics.

To stimulate exchanges and foster contacts and cooperation among the participants, the format of the event has been selected to be in-presence, although speakers from non European institutions will be exceptionally allowed to participate on-line.

Welcome to the 8^th IUPAP International Conference on Women in Physics (ICWIP2023)

The International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) has recognised a particular need to foster the participation of women in physics. The IUPAP Conferences series on Women in Physics, organised by IUPAP Working Group 5, has a history not only of success and growth but also of making a difference to the physics community. The 8th conference in this series will be held virtually during 10-14 July 2023 with India as the host country and it will be jointly organised by the Gender in Physics Working Group (GIPWG) of Indian Physics Association (IPA) and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). The conference will be hosted by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) – a national centre of TIFR, strongly focused on promoting quality and equity in Science & Mathematics education from primary school to introductory college levels.

While the community of women physicists in India has long been vocal in discussing gender issues and promoting equity, recent years have seen these efforts gain a formal shape. The IPA established the GIPWG in 2017, while a Working Group on Gender Equity of the Astronomical Society of India was established in 2015. The national science academies in India have also set up panels on women in science. The Government of India has been strongly supportive of efforts to increase the participation of women in science. This commitment has been signaled by its having set up a Task Force on Women in Science and a Standing Committee on Women in Science. Most recently, it has launched GATI, an accreditation program to promote gender equity.

Organizing ICWIP2023 in India is a unique opportunity to further India’s commitment to the cause of promoting women in physics. In addition, many initiatives in the country to support gender equity in science will serve as illustrative examples for developing countries, dealing with the women under-representation in Physics and other STEM disciplines.

The program will consist of plenary sessions, interactive workshops, poster presentations, and networking sessions. In addition to the country papers depicting the status of women in physics, registered participants can make contributions in physics, physics education and gender issues.

Poster contributions broadly based on the following topics are invited from registered participants.

The DSU events are a series of international workshops in cosmology and astro-particle physics. The workshops bring together a wide range of theorists and experimentalists to discuss current ideas on models of the dark sector of the Universe, and relate them to ongoing and future experiments. Topics covered include: dark matter, dark energy, cosmic rays, neutrino physics, large-scale structure, black holes, gravitational waves, physics beyond the standard model, and more. The 17th event of the series will be hosted by EAIFR on 10-14 July 2023, jointly organized by EAIFR and ICTP.

Initiated in Prague – 1993, the BEAUTY conference series is devoted to reviewing the latest theoretical and experimental and theoretical advances in heavy flavour physics.

The scientific programme will cover a wide range of topics, including CP violation, rare decays, spectroscopy, and production of heavy flavoured B and charmed hadrons. Prospects for upcoming B-physics experiments at frontier machines, and at the next generation of high-energy colliders will also be discussed.

During the week, several social activities are scheduled (welcome reception, excursion, conference dinner), as well as an Outreach event (in french). Informal “Pints of Science” gatherings will also be organised.

The conference fee will cover lunches throughout the week, breaks, as well as the conference dinner and social events. Check the “Registration” page for details (registration will open soon).

Searches for charged lepton flavor violation are powerful probes of new physics. In three days of plenary talks, this Conference will examine the theoretical status of charged lepton flavor violation models, present recent experimental results along with their impact on the theoretical landscape, and discuss prospects for the coming round of experiments.

HEFT is an annual workshop focusing on the use of effective field theories to search for physics beyond the Standard Model. A broad range of topics are encouraged, ranging from collider phenomenology and formal aspects to the latest experimental updates on dedicated searches. The meeting aims to foster discussions between theorists and phenomenologists from varied backgrounds as well as with experimental colleagues.

The 2023 edition is organised by the Particle Theory Group of the University of Manchester. The workshop will begin on June 19th morning and in the afternoon on June 21st.

Abstract submission is open. Abstracts are particularly welcome also from junior scientists (PhD students, young postdocs).

The ASAPP 2023 International Conference aims in reviewing the progresses in design, development, integration and test of instrumentation for measurement of particles and high-energy radiation in Space. The deployment and operation of novel instrumentation for particle and high-energy radiation measurement in space will pave the road to future astroparticle missions for investigations of fundamental physics and the Cosmos (e.g., cosmic ray physics, search for Dark Matter, matter-antimatter asymmetry, multimessenger astronomy, …); applications for monitoring of the space radiation environment; investigations of the impact of low energy ionizing particles on instrumentation, Space Weather, and Earth sciences.

This conference will be a unique opportunity in the international scenario to host a direct discussion between different experimental communities towards achieving common targets and foster synergies. The conference program will be consequently planned with plenary talks only with large slots dedicated to questions and discussions, taking advantage of the conference venue and social events to foster constructive discussions between participants in view of establishing nets of expertise.

The event is planned to be held with in-person participation. No remote connection will be provided unless specific exceptional events will require it.

The program will consist of a pedagogical series of lectures and seminars. Lectures will be given over a four-week period, three or four lectures per day, Monday through Friday. The audience will be composed primarily of advanced theoretical graduate students. Experimentalists with a strong background in theory are also encouraged to apply. Some post-doctoral fellows will be admitted, but preference will be given to applicants who will not have received their Ph.D. before 2023. The minimum background needed to get full benefit of this TASI is a knowledge of quantum field theory and some familiarity with the Standard Model and issues beyond it. We hope to provide some subsidy, but students will need partial support from other sources. Rooms, meals, and access to all facilities will be provided at reasonable rates in beautifully located dormitories at the University of Colorado.

Experimental investigations of the hadron structure and spectrum are performed via hadron-hadron scattering processes, photo- and electro-production by nucleons or, more recently, by means of heavy-meson decays at world-wide accelerator facilities. In the last decade, these investigations have yielded an enormous amount of data, which have vastly improved our knowledge of the baryon and meson spectrum and enabled us to establish the existence of new states, together with an empirical determination of their angular momentum, content, and spin. Recent highlights are observations of multi-quark states outside our well-known hadronic pictures, which have been interpreted as the long sought-after penta- and tetraquark systems.

However, identifying new states and their quantum numbers requires complex analysis (so-called partial wave analysis), which sometimes relies on model assumptions. For many of the new states, we still do not know the quantum numbers. Different theoretical models for the structure of the new states give different predictions of their quantum numbers.  Therefore, the composition of many states remains controversial.  Indeed, some of these newly discovered hadrons seem to fit the picture of compact multi-quark states, while others may qualify as molecular states or both, i.e. the superposition of a constituent-quark core and a meson cloud, and one of the main goals of this workshop will be to discuss how to distinguish them.

Leading experts from academia and industry will review the recent progress en route to the completion of the feasibility study in 2025 and set the near-term goals for the coming years. The physics opportunities opened by the FCC integrated programme as well as the status of key technology R&D programmes will be discussed along with the technological opportunities on offer for building new collaborative projects. The meeting is an excellent opportunity to reinforce the bonds between the FCC collaborating institutes and to draft the work plans for the submission of the FCC mid-term review to the CERN’s Council later this year.

The FCC Week 2023 will follow the traditional layout of plenary and parallel sessions covering all aspects of the study: physics, experiments, machine design, technologies, infrastructures and civil engineering. Monday features a set of plenary keynote presentations with top-ranking international speakers from the world of science, industry and European affairs, offering an overview about the ongoing activities across all parts of the study and serve to inform study members about the updated boundary conditions from placement studies, the latest machine parameters and progress on understanding the physics potential that the FCC integrated programme can offer during its lifetime. Parallel sessions will focus on specific areas. Satellite meetings for UK-related projects and for the governance bodies of the FCC study will be included in the programme that is being developed. Participation of industry is highly encouraged as addressing the technological challenges of a new research infrastructure presents opportunities for co-innovation.

The work carried out in the framework of the FCC Feasibility Study will inform the next update of the European Strategy and benefit society in areas beyond particle physics. It is the sixth event in this series after the pandemic with the aim to strengthen collaboration among Asian countries which are involved in Grid computing communities such as WLCG, B2G, and LDG. The forum will be held in Krabi, Thailand and hosted by Suranaree University of Technology(SUT) together with Global Science experimental Data hub Center (GSDC), Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI).

The objectives of this forum  to review the activities through ATCF before the pandemic and their current status, i.e. Asian sites’ status, the network connectivity in terms of LHCONE in Asia and the distributed storage project conducted by three sites, KISTI-ICEPP-SUT. As usual, Asian sites’ participation and contributions are mandatory for the success of the forum, and we are expecting the presence from international / national research and education network providers in Asia with their roadmap and milestones for LHCONE networking. Also, we will discuss how to expand from lessons learned through the distributed storage project to further activities in order to consolidate resources and ease operational efforts. In this regard, the perspectives on Asian grid computing community from LHC and non-LHC experiments representatives will definitely be helpful and essential. Additionally, we will host HTCondor and Storage software sessions in order for site operators to interact closely with experts with the latest updates.

It is suggested that a strong collaboration in a same time zone is required to put efforts on tracking technologies, commissioning core grid services, establishing a support model for sites and so on. Thus, the ultimate goal of this forum is to contribute to promotion of harmonization of research computing infrastructure in the region.

This year’s SSI is proceeding with the on SLAC site full program in person, with lectures in the morning, Q&A discussions and projects in the afternoon. There will be also special 50th anniversary sessions at the end of SSI to look back at the history of SSI. We are evaluating the COVID-19 situation continuously and preparing precautionary measures, but unless the situation is taking a worse turn than the present orange level in California the program remains on site.

Taking place in a hybrid format, the meeting will give the opportunity to share results, build new collaborations and solidify the vision of a post-LHC circular particle-collider. The event will follow the traditional layout of plenary and parallel sessions with invited contributions. Plenary sessions will give an overview about the ongoing activities across all parts of the study and serve to inform study members about the updated boundary conditions from placement studies, the latest machine parameters and progress on understanding the physics potential that the FCC integrated programme can offer during its lifetime. Parallel sessions will focus on specific areas of the study. Satellite meetings for related projects and governance bodies of the FCC study will be included in the programme that is being developed. Participation of industry is highly encouraged as addressing the technological challenges of a new research infrastructure presents opportunities for co-innovation.

The work carried out in the framework of the FCC Feasibility Study will inform the next update of the European Strategy while can have an impact on areas beyond particle physics. The CDCS is a new interdisciplinary joint facility of the Universität Hamburg, Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), and the Hamburg University of Technology, that aims to combine scientific research with state-of-the-art information technology. The CDCS initially consists of four application-focused, cross-disciplinary laboratories (CDLs), which are supported by a Computational Core Unit (CCU). The CDLs focus on the following areas:

• Computational Astro and Particle Physics
• Computational Photon Science
• Computational Systems Biology
• Computational Controls of Accelerators.

The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers with interests and expertise in ML from different fields in physics, strongly encouraging and promoting cross-topic exchange of ideas and collaborations. Three broad research areas will be covered:
– High-Energy Physics

– Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics (including Quantum Information)

The distinctive trait of the workshop will be the focus on theoretical physics in a broad sense, including data analysis as well as simulation and modelling.

The program will consist of a pedagogical series of lectures and seminars. Lectures will be given over a four-week period, three or four lectures per day, Monday through Friday. The audience will be composed primarily of advanced theoretical graduate students. Experimentalists with a strong background in theory are also encouraged to apply. Some post-doctoral fellows will be admitted, but preference will be given to applicants who will not have received their Ph.D. before 2022. The minimum background needed to get full benefit of this TASI is a knowledge of quantum field theory and some familiarity with the Standard Model and issues beyond it. We hope to provide some subsidy, but students will need partial support from other sources. Rooms, meals, and access to all facilities will be provided at reasonable rates in beautifully located dormitories at the University of Colorado.

Since 2014, the field of AI and HEP has grown exponentially. Physicists have realised quickly the potential of AI to deal with the large amount of complex data they are collecting and analysing. Many AI techniques have been put forward, with scientific collaboration based on open data sets, challenges, workshops and papers.

Learning To Discover is a first-of-its-kind program where participants will have access to deep technical insights in advanced machine learning techniques, and their application to particle physics. During the event, blending the concept of hackathon, hands-on and tutorials, physicists who have attempted to apply machine learning to specific challenges in HEP will expose their problem case and the solutions they have arrived at so far. ML experts will expose the latest advances in relevant techniques. Machine learning experts and ML-aware physicists will work hand in hand on existing datasets, building upon and improving existing solutions.Bibliography and open datasets will have been made available months earlier in order to make the event most productive. Under this particular environment, the participants will be able to discuss and understand shortcomings of existing solutions and develop novel architectures and methods to outperform on the specific problem.

A concrete and particularly well developed framework to address specific questions of quantum gravity is String Theory, where the Swampland conjectures translate into conjectures regarding the structure of possible string geometries. Recent work has shown that these geometries have an elegant reformulation in terms of a generalized version of Riemannian geometry. The goal of this workshop is to explore the intriguing connections between general properties of quantum gravity and the generalized geometry of string theory. The workshop aims to bring together the swampland community and the generalized geometry community at this unique time in which our understanding of the Swampland is quickly evolving.

All PED Working group packages will be represented, Physics Programme, Physics Performance, Detector Concepts and Physics Software and Computing, as well as the joint FCC-ee Accelerator-Experiment working groups (machine-detector interface (MDI) and centre-of-mass energy calibration, polarization and monochromatization (EPOL)). Joint sessions and tutorials will reinforce the synergies between working groups.

Gravitational waves are a new way to explore the sky and uncover the deepest mysteries of the Universe. The aim of this workshop is to provide researchers with a forum to present recent progress in the field and discuss its future, from mathematical modelling of gravitational-wave sources to integration of data analysis techniques with machine learning.

The format of the workshop will be hybrid with a mix of online and in-person participation. There is no registration fee to attend, but registration is required. If you are interested in attending, please register at this link before November 1st, 2021. However, due to covid-19 restrictions in-person attendance will be limited, therefore we ask you to register as soon as possible. An outstanding problem of modern physics is the reconciliation of the two most successful broad theories of physics: general relativity, which describes the gravitational force exerted by massive objects in terms of the bending and rippling of spacetime, and quantum mechanics, which describes the behavior of matter on the minute scales of subatomic particles such as electrons. While both theories are remarkably successful independently, they appear to give contradictory predictions of phenomena that involve gravity at the small scales at which quantum mechanics is relevant. Such phenomena include the Big Bang, when the universe was small enough to be described by quantum mechanics and sufficiently dense to also require a gravitational description; also the process of the final stages of the death of a large star, when a black hole is formed and the star’s matter is concentrated in an extremely small volume. A proper description of these phenomena requires a unified theory of quantum gravity.

A particular model of quantum gravity, and the one on which this workshop focuses, works to understand an idealized situation in which gravity essentially lives “in a box”. It is a remarkable property of quantum gravity that the behavior of gravity inside the box, including quantum effects, can be described purely by the physics on the surface of the box. Importantly, because the surface of the box is rigid, no gravity is needed in describing its physics: hence the remarkable feature of this model is that quantum gravitational physics can actually be described without apparently using any gravity at all! Answering questions like what happened in the Big Bang or what happens inside black holes then amounts to rephrasing what’s happening on the boundary of the box, which we understand well, in the gravitational language of the inside. This rephrasing is called bulk reconstruction, and is the focus of this workshop.

Such observations would provide clear guiding principles for the future of the entire field that are, given the present discussions on future colliders all over the world, more crucial than ever before.

So far, inclusive and model dependent searches have not provided evidence of new resonances, indicating that these could be driven by more subtle topologies, hidden by large backgrounds. Phenomenologists have found many classes of New Physics that are difficult to test with current LHC analyses.

In this light, it is important to keep investigating what theories could be further explored. In addition, we need to elaborate on methodologies that display less model dependencies. The use of Machine Learning may play a critical role here.

The opportunity to test a wide range of New Physics opened up very recently: CERN announced on the 11th of December 2020 a new open data policy, which “will make scientific research more accessible to the community”. This opens up the testing ground for new search strategies.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together theory and experiment to identify novel signatures connected to such ‘hidden’ New Physics, to devise new methodologies, and to establish new search strategies.

WAO’2020 will be hosted by the ALBA Synchrotron and the Worskhop venue will be the Parc de Recerca Biomèdica located on the Barceloneta seafront downtown in Barcelona.

The objective of the workshop is to create an open forum for those involved in the daily operation of particle accelerators to present, discuss, and exchange ideas with their peers from around the world. Accelerator operations staff from facilities of all sizes gather to collaborate on topics such as accelerator operation, performance, organization, maintenance, documentation, software, control room layout, remote operation, and safety. It also serves the accelerator operations community to establish benchmarks by facilitating comparisons of methods, efficiencies, costs, reliability, beam quality and other performance measures.

The workshop style atmosphere, which allows for interpersonal communication, is organized with scheduled talks, a poster session, and discussion periods; along with the opportunity for further discussion at breaks and meals.

Quark Matter 2019 brings together physicists from around the world to discuss new developments in high energy heavy-ion physics. The focus is on the fundamental understanding of strongly-interacting matter at extreme conditions of high temperature and density, as formed in ultra-relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions. In these conditions, which also characterised the early Universe, matter appears as a Quark-Gluon Plasma, with quarks and gluons not confined within hadrons.
